Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'm over 130 posts behind and much to tired to stay up and read them all tonight since I've gotten up at 430 the past 2 morning to go hunting. The good news is that I bagged a nice big doe that didn't have any fawns with her (so I didn't feel bad for shooting the mama) and now DH has a full day to hunt before we start juggling work schedules and children again. Hopefully some of you other hunters have been successful as well!

Anyone have any tried and tested recipes for making venison into something similar to corned beef brisket? Saw someone on CL that had that listed as an option for their deer processing and I do love corned beef.......

My husband has finally come to the "dark-side"....he now wants his OWN chicken and wants a silkie. So I am now looking for a black or blue silkie

Daron Happy Birthday. I ordered a beautiful day for you too but, someone beat me to it. Maybe then you'll get two beautiful days. My gosh how did you get to be so old so fast. Seems like you were just a teenager last year.

There is no need for lights or auxiliary heat. They will be better off without it as long as your coop is dry, draft free and has good ventilation. Chickens have survived for thousands of years before lights and heaters.

If you follow Chicken Whisperer on FB, he has reported four (4) fatal coop fires so far this fall from faulty lights/heaters in the coop.
Thats so true

My DH recommends kevlar chaps. Says it stops the chain cold. He just bought his second pair. First one got pretty chewed up over the years. Costs less than $100.

I saw your later post that said he had chaps wouldn't wear them so you sold them on ebay. If he were my DH he'd be getting one of these!

I need to take a photo of the chaps that saved DH's leg the other day.
I know I wish I had never sold them now. He is still messed up

Anybody see the strange lights in the sky last night? Almost midnight, over the eastern horizon, three orangish lights in a triangle that began fading and moving in formation off to the north? Anyone?
