Chickenmaven - Yep, that's what I was told, too. My kids may someday be able to get the vaccine when more is available, but I may not. They are only doing clinics for pregnant women here. I'd stay away from the doctors office unless you are sick right now. Between urgent care on Sunday and then taking our youngest for a well child check up on Monday I saw lots and lots of people with it. My hands are already dry and cracking from the hand sanitizer, bleach, and soap. So I'm using up the hand lotion right now.

Do they have the shots here in MI yet or just the nasal mist? The info I read on nasal mist (it is a live virus) it is not recommended for pg women or anyone with heart, lung, neuro, muscle etc problems. Basically only people who are perfectly healthy. After the stuff I have read and seen, I don't think we will be getting anything. I just watched the yutube video of a piece 60 minutes did on the swine flu back in 1976 and the vaccines the government put out then, which these vaccines were made from. SCARY STUFF!!

Dont use to much antibactiral I have heard that it can start to attack the good bacteria in your body to fight off the bad.

I just hope my daughter gets her shot she is pregnant and to far away for me to make sure she gets there.

Hillbilly - she should have some available to her. I'd hope anyways! She's top priority for it. I think that pregnant women get the shot not the mist. With the mist you can still feel the effects of the flu (that was my understanding, anyways). From what my husband and daughter went through, it was much easier than the seasonal (that's minus the hubby's pneumonia). When I had the seasonal I felt really bad for two weeks and didn't feel normal for another week after that.

I LOVE this sunshine!!!

My kids came home with a letter from school today. They are closing the school until Mon. Hopefully that stops this nasty flu.

It means I am back up to 9 kids for a couple of days! Busy Fun!!

Today sure was a good day for working on the chicken coop. I didn't think that I'd spent enough money on on chickens

so I decided to put vinyl siding on the large fowl coop. I had to do something to make sure my egg cost stays over $100 per dozen.

I'm in the Kalamazoo area (Mattawan).
My chickens live with my friend and his wife in Lawton...they raised the pigs...I dunno who it was that processed them...It was a guy and his high-school aged son....I think my friend said he was from Bloomingdale...? I just kinda watched from the sidelines while they talked and worked out the details and then dispatched the pigs...wow. It was quite a sight.
I will have to ask my friend who processed them. It may be Jack.

Anyways, good to see another from the area!

I know people around here have chickens...they just must not be on BYC.

Yes, it is good to see someone local. I did see someone from South Haven on here, but they were not very chatty. I would recommend going to the chickenstock if you can, in the spring. It was so fun this last August. I got some awesome chicks at a great price and met some wonderful people.

Okey doke...so it wasn't Jack's processing. I guess it was Skinner and Bryan from Bloomingdale.

South Haven! You know...I never got out to the beach this year....bummer!

Chickenstock sounds fun. I was going to go to Fowlfest in Frankenmuth but had to work.

I figured I throw this picture from today up here. Some you folks know we lost our Roo a few weeks back. Opa was very kind to lend me his incubator so I could put some of our eggs in. I have never hatched eggs before, so this was all a first.

Unfortunately not many of the eggs hatched. ( they all had development but didn't make it thru the lockdown. ) I figure we will leave the remaining eggs in another day or so, since none are weeping or smell bad.

Here are the two that did hatch

We are happy to have a couple of Gandalf's offspring. They are EE/EE, and EE/RIR.

Thanks again Opa! I look forward to trying to hatch eggs again.

Well if you wanna make them say $200 a dozen you can come here and vinyl side my coop. LOL

Boy would that look nice! Id even make ya some cheese cake to take home. Or how about a German Choc cake?

Was beautiful today...too bad I had to wait for the local tractor guy to come out who was 2 1/2 hours late showing up grrrrrrrrrr .Then he was here 10 minutes and left.

So hopefully the weather holds out tomorrow and I can finish the new 32' x 32' outdoor run for my Cochins and Light Brahmas.

Also anyone looking for vinyl windows, check out Craigslist. I got 2 new/never installed 18" x 30" today off there for $20 for both. Gosh I love finding treasures.
