Do you currently have a rooster? If so have you seen him mate? I have a few hens that molting affected them more than others and the skin is quite red. You should be able to see evidence of new feather growth if it has been very long since the molt started. Have you checked them thoroughly for mites? You have my cell # don't hesitate to use it. I don't claim to know it all but I will share all I know.

Thanks, Oopsy, but no. Her leg and foot are not at all swollen. It's just a hard growth that looks like a marble on top of her foot. I'll go out and take a picture and post it in a few. I'll take a pic of the baldies, too. Thanks, Opa. Yes, I have a roo and he does mate frequently.

Have you ever laughed uncontrollably until you cried? LOL Well I saw this and did just that. I thought about all my pullets that are just starting to lay and its probably exactly what they say to each other. Enjoy!!!

Oopsy, that is funny.

Yak Lady, you have three choices with regard to the rooster and mating damage to the hens. 1st- eat him. 2nd- segregate him till they heal 3rd- place aprons on the damaged hens.
I would also recommend catching the rooster, wrapping him with a ace bandage and blunting his toenails and spurs with a Dremel sanding drum. Also remove ace bandage before placing him back with hens. They might consider it an opportunity similar to the wife sewing her abusive husband in the bedsheets.

Morning everyone! I just wanted to share my latest blog entry with you. Visit my blog at www.clutehomestead.blogspot.com to receive the message. And I really urge to click on the link within the entry after you are done reading. And turn your speakers on when you visit. The first song that plays on my blog inspired me to write this.

OMG, Opa, you're too funny! Taking pictures of her foot was easier said than done, but one of the pictures shows it pretty clearly, I think. Oopsy Daisy, it looks different today, and more similar to what you showed me earlier. Bumblefoot?

Oh, and here's a picture of the hen who I was trying to identify. The guy emailed me and told me she's a Minorca-Orp mix.

And here's a picture of who walked up to see what all the squawking was about. This is Jessie, one of our bulls.
