As far as the wood, bundle everyone up a little more and hide all your hubby's clothes...let him get a little chilled this morning, and I betcha he goes and gets that wood!

I have tried starter before with not such great success... today, I am trying Suzanne McMinn's recipe... Jayne, you will love her- she is a hoot! Her method looks fool proof and happens to be today's subject on her blog. She even gives great pictures for those like me who are visual learners, lol

Hey Miss_Jayne. Do you know where the skate park is near you? My son has been going there lately. Just wondered...
You all are too hyper this morning. I like to take it slow and work myself up. Actually, gonna go and shovel the chicken run...again. More snow coming so got to keep on top of it.

Mornin' all!!! I, too, was up at 5:30. Sigh.

Miss_J, your horses are pretty! Very kind eyes. And nice forelocks and manes! WISH my little App mare had a forelock & mane! Well, she does, but it's mighty skimpy..

ANYWHO, I'm the one that'd mentioned organizing a swap this summer for Michigan folks who wanted to get together. I've never organized anything such as this, but I'm willing to take a shot at it!

I was initially thinking maybe a chick swap would be more fun; this way, we wouldn't have to worry about having eggs to transport and keep cool while we were meeting each other & swappin' critter stories. But, an out-of-state friend who I mentioned it to said she'd done these before, and that some folks DO prefer eggs rather than chicks.

So - first of all, give me some votes. I envisioned getting some basics from you all who post a lot on this Michigan thread, then, I'll start a new one inviting other Michiganders to take part.

What I had in mind was doing it in June - it could be a road trip to UP if that seems to be what folks would like, or we could meet somewhere that's sorta in between all that wish to participate to make it as equal a drive for all as possible. Shall we meet at a neutral location (a restaurant, or maybe a park?) Or, would someone want to volunteer to host the event? I'm near Flint, and would be happy to have folks over...though my place isn't very fancy or anything...but, I'd have room outside that we could set up a few picnic tables, and I could throw some meat on the grill...whatever seems easiest - open to suggestions there, too.

I'd like to have it in mid-June, if that's agreeable. The chicks/eggs I'll be offering won't be laying til then!

So - what I need from those wishing to participate is the following in THIS thread - you can either just post in here, or PM me if you prefer: 1) chicks, eggs, or both? 2) Mid-June okay? 3) Where?

I'd like to set the limit for each swap of 2 chicks or 2 eggs - sound good?

Once we get the basic info., I'll start the new thread and let you know I've started it - in that thread, I'll tell when, where, eggs/chicks, and I'll ask who has what to trade (breeds).

Sound like fun?? What am I forgetting?

Yeah, I heard we were getting a lot of snow tonight. It has already started here in Grand Rapids, but it's not very heavy snow. I don't see a Winter Weather Advisory yet; does anyone have one where they live?

That sounds great! Can people come just to meet up, even if we have nothing to trade? I have a small flock with little room for growing (wah!) But would love to put faces with names!

We have a Winter Storm Warning here in South Central Mi. 8-10 inches coming.... heading out to check my coop and run needs!
