Laura and Vicki, I hope things start going better for you both.

Laura, there is no Bell tire near us but DH found some for us and youngest son. We are getting 2 for our van and 2 for sons car. That is our Christmas gift to him. Had to wait till tomorrow to do it though and son is very happy about it.

LMC: I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is. I lost 2 of my first 5 hens this fall as they were old also. Still doesnt make it any easier.

YakLady: My Andalusian Roo has the biggest comb you'd see on a Roo I made up vaseline and corona ointment (for horses) It working great so far. I put it on in the morning and when I refill their water at night. Andy's are flighty birds to begin with, but seems Lou enjoys me messing with his comb and he now just squats down when I go to pick him and and stays really calm until I put him down. I keep them inside the coop when its below 30 degrees and he's showing no signs of frost bite. Nor are any of the 10 Roo's in my grainery building. Its so warm in there with all the birds, I havent had to put anything on their combs, Yet

I went out last night at 1am as I had forgot to put gas in my truck and it was almost empty. Husband would toss a fit if in the winter i let the gas go below 1/2 tank, so off I went. It was a bitter 10 degrees out. And with the wind whipping, it was like a sand blaster in your face. Even my dobe girl, Lexus didnt wanna go with me. LOL cant say I blame her. Took all I had to go up town.

Seems Meijer is giving at the checkout, a $11.00 coupon off when you spend $100.00 So yesterday I went through the checkout 2 times with small items, and got 2 coupons. I posted one on freecycle.com and will use the other for the rest of my christmas shopping. Just thought Id share.

I've got one rooster with the beginnings of frostbite on the very tips of his comb. I've been keeping it covered with bag balm. He doesn't like being picked up, but I keep telling him it's for his own good. He's at the point now, when he sees me he RUNS. It hasn't been easy catching him. The rest have no frostbite. The other two roosters have pea combs, and their combs are fine. So, whether he likes it or not, his big bad rooster self will just have to have to get used to being humiliated in front of his girls. He is getting bag balmed....

My little rooster the phoenix, Re-Peep, does not like to be handled much either but I think he is getting used to me catching him and putting the vaseline on him. Elliott is such a good boy and never gives me any problem.
I am hoping for a "heat wave" too this 12 degrees is just too cold.

Mine doesn't seem to care at all.

I swear he looks at me and says....You gotta catch me first Lady! His other buddy will even help if I get too close. So, I have to keep one eye on Houdini while I'm trying to catch Stevie. These are the Wynette Boys. They are trouble makers, and at times try to out smart the treat lady....

Thankfully, I've stayed one step ahead of those two, and my daughters silkie from Shelley1969 has saved me twice from getting flogged. That little guy gets a christmas treats

Am not a grandpa yet! The doctor told my daughter that the baby has no stress and that if to induce her that would put stress on her and the baby and that would not be good. She has another appointment on the 22nd.

Is their any moms out their that remember how many days that it was when the baby stopped moving until you had your babies? I am thinking that she may have a christmas baby and that is not going to be fun to travel to the U. P.

Oh frostbite I can say that I know how to knit from teachings of my daughters and making a hat and trying to put it on your roosters does not work.

Oooo, That would be a wonderful idea for Stevie.

He'd hate me even more than he does now.

I think I'll go grab my knitting needles...... The look on his face would be rewarding enough.

Congrats on the future grandbaby. My daughter is 15 now, but I don't want to scare you with the details of what happened to me during birth. If the little one isn't stressed then everything is ok

Frostbite can occur anytime the wind chill temperature is below 32 degrees. My roosters are now confined until spring. Last winter I applied Udder Balm almost daily to the one LF rooster I had. By the end of winter I swear he was starting to like it a little too much. However, in spite of daily rooster greasing he still suffered greatly from frostbite. While he had no physical problems from the frostbite, everything that turned black fell off. He looked at though his comb and wattles had been dubbed.
