Thanks I had a very pleasant time but it is good to be home with all my "STUFF". That is one thing I don't like about traveling... There is always something I don't have.

Love your signature line Rich!

Well today I had sewed all the sweatpants and jeans that needed fixing. I haven't done that in a long time. Maybe I will get the sewing machine out

My closet is cleaned out and everything is wearable again.

Still need to finish the basement cleaning. I think I need a nap today though. The middleschoolers had an event at church last night for new years and I didnt' get to bed til midnight. Got up at 5:30am and ran 4 miles. I am so glad to be on the treadmill in this cold weather! Spring is only 3 months away

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Yesterday I posted about my BIL needing to find a home for one of his ducks. I called it a racer.

Well it is a pencil neck runner, looks like a bowling pin. He is still needing a home or oven, BIL doesn't care which.

When my oldest son lived in Louisianna he had runners. They are nice birds and you're right, they do look like bowling pins. At one point he had a flock of about thirty. It was funny to watch the the flock move. When one bird would turn the others would turn in the same direction at exactly the same time. He had an artesian well and the outflow from the well flowed across his property. He dug out a small pond that the birds would use and he noticed that every few days he would have a duck missing. Turns out that a 4' alligator had taken up residence in the pond and loved eatig duck.

I agree.. Happy New year y'all.

I am just sitting here waiting on DH to wake up from his nap, we were thinking on going to some friends to play cards. So for now I am spending time with BYC friends.

I just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Opa, my husband did bring one doe home, it was a bad year for us. I am tickled to have the one. You are right, you cant' have enough venison. Any way. Have a great NEW YEARS EVE. Please drink responsibly without driving. You are all special to many people. Have a great New year.

Happy 2010 everyone.

It's hard to believe that another year is here all ready. It's like my life is moving at warp speed. December 4th marked the conclusion of my 18th year of retirement. It doesn't really seem that it was that long ago that I was hiring on the fire department. Most days I still think I'm no different than I was 40 years ago and then I drag a deer out of the woods and I'm reminded of just how old I have become. I was able to take my limit again this year but unfortunately David wasn't. We wound up with eight for the season so while we have a sufficent amount of meat in the freezer, I won't be making as many different kinds of sausage as I would like. Yesterday I smoked 30 pounds of pastrami. I sure wish I had gotten it started much earlier in the day. It was 2am before it was finished. Half of it is mine and half belongs to the neighbor. When I get off line I will slice and package it and consider butchering the final deer I have hanging.

This year should be a great year for being involved with chickens. I will have separate enclosures for Welsummers, bantam blue orpingtons, bantam Spangled Hamburgs and bantam Vorwerks. Hopefully I will have hatching eggs and possibly chicks available for those of you who want them. I have had the honor of meeting a lot of people on BYC and with another Chickenstock in the works I should get to meet a lot more of you. Securing a site that will provide us the amenities we need and that will allow chickens on site is a little more difficult than one would expect. Last years was a great success and I predict that this years will be even more enjoyable. I will soon be updating the Chickenstock thread so start watching.

Morning all I hope everyone arrived safely in 2010. Calling for 6-12" of new snow today so looks like a hunker down day.
Hey Sam I'm unclear did extended doe season end yesterday at dusk or today at dusk.
