YakLady, that is awesome about your house!
Oopsy, thanks, I am thankful that it wasn't worse. I usually have DH cut those hard squash for me but he had to work late.
FrizzeledHen, glad to see you back!
Laura, good luck with catching the varmit.

Someone said earlier something about MJ not posting lately. Before Christmas sometime she had said something about being super busy. I hope that that is still the case and that all is well with her and family. I have not seen Cathy/Catray posting lately, I hope all is well with her also.

I have a quick question about roosters in the coop. Last year I only had hens, this year I have a rooster and 12 hens - since the cold weather has hit, our egg production has steadily declined, particularly last year's chickens (they are actually only 16 months old now.) The 2009 chickens are laying little pullet eggs, not very reliably. Is it possible that the rooster in the coop is making the hens nervous and that's why they aren't laying as well? I am supplementing light - all are eating and drinking well and are very active, so that's why I'm wondering about the rooster factor.

waving hi again***
I just stopped in to say Hello All, stay warm!
I hate this cold weather! Hate it hate it hate it!

My supervisor decided we needed to 'all' do some online CE so I am listening to the monotone online training droning on in the background and just opened a new browser window to come here and read. lol.
I have tomorrow off, and shall make my chickens some nice warm oatmeal to apologize to them- since they do blame me for the cold and the frozen water and lack of grass and dirt and bugs and warm sunbeams out there.

I hope you are all okay.
FrizzledHen! HI! I have been MIA also, just came back the other day!

Local corner store that buys all my fresh eggs, she gave me all her squash decorations from her store in the fall. My chickens LOVED the pumpkins and all kinds of squash. I only know/like acorn squash so they got the rest. Funny how in a couple of days, the hens make those squash look like deflated balloons. Only the skin was left lying flat in the side yard. Paper thin. LOL couldnt believe what they did to that stuff. I only threw them down on the ground to crack them open and they did the rest.

So after halloween I put a Wanted post on freecycle for local pumpkins. Just fed the last of them to the chickens before the holidays started.

Question:? old wives tail or truthfull, is pumpkin a natural wormer for chickens/poultry/fowl?

Ooopsy. Do I have to supply my own detonators or do they come fully equipped?

Good Evening!

A2- even with a light on my chickens they do slow down some. Especailly the older they get. Rooster shouldn't make a difference. I do take the roos away during the winter months only to save the feathers on the girls backs. It is cold enough without having to produce extra heat for missing feathers

Mom2themall- so glad to see you multitasking!

We all made it through Awana tonight. Now I am waiting for the kids to fall asleep so I can fill the tub and turn the jets on. (too many sore muscles from running and exersicing!) the kids say the jets are too noisey and cannot fall asleep, so no one complains if I wait for them to be sleeping

Great we will have to meet at chicken stock. These ground moles are driving me crazy.

Lighthawk: moles are so easy. Put your favorite fertilizer in the entrance and exit holes. If you cannot find them, I have a earth dog aka mini dachshund that will FIND what you seek. Plug those babies full and pour a tad of diesel fuel in them. Make sure they are not any where near a building and wait until dark and light. Make sure you make a liquid wick..ie gas or diesel (gas is the pref for me) holes gone, vermit lit up like fireworks and not for the VERY KIND hearted. *wink. Moles exhausted, period.
