OH NO!!! It's paczki season again? I'm NEVER going to lose those 5 pounds of belly fat I gained over Christmas!

Born and raised in the G Rap, moved to WA a couple years ago.. sure do miss home, although you can keep the snow. Wish I had been into chickens back then...

I've never had a paczki ( sp ) Hope I spelled that right. I had never heard of them until I moved here either.

So, let me get this straight.....You have Valentine's day on the 14th, those donut things on the 15th, and then there is sweetest day somewhere during the year if you didn't get enough sweets in on Valentine's, and donut day????

sevenchickens, if you like Fat Tuesday wait until you come to Chickenstock. Everyone brought a dish to pass and the food was incredible.

Did anyone ever have Tres Leche cake? It's a good substitute for those polish donut things. And it uses 9 eggs in the recipe.

No butter or oil, all the fat comes from whipping cream, and there's plenty of that in there!

Hiya Michiganders -

I haven't checked in here for a while....although I do lurk from time to time

Had the day off today, too and tagged along with my wife to the grocery store and the bakery was filled with paczski! She had to drag me away from there...we left without any.

My wife has started the " OHMYGOSH, THE WEDDING IS ONLY 4 MONTHS AWAY!!!" diet.

So no junk food around here. Since she does most of the cooking, I'm eating better, too...which is something I needed to do.

Can't wait till that wedding reception, though.....we met with the cake lady on Saturday.....mmmmm....we're having chocolate, white, white w/ strawberry filling, a spice cake, a "ho-ho" cake, a snicker cake....and probably a couple I missed (my eyes would roll back in my head and I would fade out while she was describing some of the cakes, they sounded so good!)....the cake lady is really a neighbor girl (lives on a dairy farm...fresh butter and whole milk in the cakes!) we've known forever and she does this on the side...and we are getting a great deal, as her and my daughter are old friends.

I just got in from candleing the 4 eggs under the broody number 1, and all 4 eggs have growth. I say broody number 1 because now we have 3 broody Buff Orps. We have 6 nest boxes and 3 are being sat in. Only 1 chicken has eggs under her. I ordered some chicks for April and want some chicks from you Michigan BYCers too. Maybe instead of ordering meat chicks this spring we will just butcher all the extras and put them in the freezer. Doesn't cost me a thing to hatch a bunch of chicks out with all these broody chickens just the extra feed which I would need anyways for meat chicks.
