I currently have 4 roosters free ranging right now.

Soon, 2 will still share the same building ( we are reconfiguring the inside of our chicken house. ) but have their own fenced yard area. The others in the main area free range. They all get along the way they are now, and it's interesting to watch how they do things in tandem. They have this whole heirarchy.

My best rooster was the one who commited suicide last fall.

I have his son now. So far, he as pretty as his father was. It's still too early to see how his temperment is. He also looks very goofy because he hasn't filled in yet. I think the other roosters put him in charge of guarding the nest box.

Darn Gandalf! I miss that stupid rooster. We have a fenced area off the back ( really the side ) of our house where our deck is. That is the dogs area. They can run, play do whatever. Only one of our dogs ( Brody ) looks at the chickens as squeaker balls. He is the reason we have a fence there to begin with.

Anyway, Gandalf hated Brody, and Brody thought Gandalf looked like a great squeaker. One day, Gandalf had just decided he had enough of Brody. ( I was watching when he did this in shock. ) He flew over the 6 ft fence right into the mouth of Brody. Brody squealed and ran at first, but just as Gandalf was flying back over the fence, Brody got him.

So, DH pretty much coined that whole incident up to Death by Brody. He thinks Gandalf just had enough, and was going to smack Brody upside the head. He did technically.

He was a great rooster. Gentile with the girls, very alert, and protective. He wasn't aggressive towards people at all.

It was, but we didn't blame the dog at all. He was in his area, the bird flew to him. I think it surprised him more than anyone.

We have a daughter of his also. She was added into the flock with his son a week ago. She's a sweetheart, and very pretty. She hatched out of the RIR egg. Gandalf was an EE. I'll make sure to get a picture of her when she's outside. The two have them have just started exploring. His son was from our EE Sarah. Blue egg.

The egg hatching is a whole nother story.

Opa, that was so nice about you getting the emu eggs and things. I will be watching to see what you carve.

I just made a bunch of gingersnap cookies since I cannot seem to sleep.

Good morning everyone

I hope you and your family are feeling better, Zephercreek

I so sorry to hear about the chicks bing sick and dying and the turkey that is so sick. That is so nice of you to dr it for this long.

Opa congrats on your package.

I am hoping for better weather today. Something must be going on with the air pressure or something. i have had such a bad sinus headache the last few days. I spent most of the day yesterday in bed. Savannah had 4H for the first time last night. She loved it. She is excited about fair I think. I just hope I have her and not her dad that week or I will have a lot of extra driving to do. I know he wont take her up to the fair grounds everyday to clean the cage out and show for the judges. She is going to show her little black silkie named Laura. She says if it turns out to be a boy she is renaming it Lauren. The other morning we heard crowing coming from the silkie brooder. They are supossed to be about 10-11 weeks. Do you think they are older if the boys are finding their voices?

Sure, I'll PM you my number if you want. Probably better for me to explain it that way.

They will crow regardless. Mine crow to call ones who stray over to them. They make all sorts of noises.

Well Aidan went back to school today, so all is once again right in our world.

I'm finally feeling more like myself too. Thanks for all the good wishes everyone.

Yummmmmm, gingersnap cookies. Those are one of our favorites.

We have 13 chicks bumping around the brooder now. 2 more are zipped, one pip, and one that does not seem to be doing much of anything yet.

Have a great day everyone!
