SillyChicken: What type of geese are you looking for? Ive been doing a lot of research on Sebastopol and have come across a lot of other breeds, pretty cheap if not free.
And yes bothers me too seeing old barns just become piles of timber. Neighbor around the corner had a milk house, hay barn and horse barn that were very old. The hay barn was starting to fall in and I offerend my come-alongs, cable and some 6x6's to tie it all back together. He didnt want to bother with it and about a year later, a storm took it down. Folded it up like a cardboard box. Such a shame for a beautiful building to go like that.
I have 4 very old barns here and 28 yrs ago I had to re roof 2 of the largest. Back then cost me $6K to have it done but it was something I couldnt wait to do, as I knew I would lose them if I didnt ...that was a lot of money back then, heck it's a lot now...and both those buildings need it again. I'll eat bologna for a year before Id let them deteriorate and fall down.
MSU was here about 2 wks ago, taking pictures of all the old barns in the area. I talked with her and seems that the Amish had built a great deal of the dowled hay barns in Lapeer County and they are trying to track them all down. She enjoyed my grainery building that we call "Emily's Barn" and where I now house all my show birds. I took her inside and she couldnt believe what great condition it was still in being over 100 yrs old. These barns are my pride and joy and Im very lucky to have them all.
Here are some pictures I finally got off my new camera. Opa made me some awesome next boxes for my layers. These are not only very easy to clean but a breeze to put up. Told him to put them on CL for sale and use the money to pay for his feed. Most of you know how generous he is, he just said "Nahhh I enjoy making things for others".
