Good morning everyone!!
I haven't posted on here in a while, but I check in and read about you guys all the time. I have been busy setting up my breeding pens. My DH has done an awesome job building 6 inside pens so far. Now we have to finish the runs and make more. I don't know how you guys manage these chicken obsessions. I had no poultry at all a year ago. Now I am afraid to count all of them.

I have over 70 chickens, ducks, turkeys, pheasants, guineas, and peacocks. My DH is such and enabler. I am trying to talk myself out of going to Imlay City on Saturday, and he is all excited to go with me.

Does it get any easier to walk away from all those cute fuzzy butts? My other problem is I keep saying I am going to sell some, but that hasn't happened. I just keep making more room. Definetely an addiction problem.
Yak Lady When I was looking for DE last year, I got the phone number for a rep off their website. He then gave me a phone number for a local guy who sold me a 50 lb bag. If I remember right I paid $35. I need to get in touch with him and get some more soon.
I hope everyone has a great day. Looks like it is going to be beautiful!!

Morning everyone!

I'm soooo excited. I hatched out a boatload of bantam cochins on the 9th, and they've began feathering in nicely and....

I have my first black and blue mottled FRIZZLES!!!!!

Isn't it sooooo rewarding when something you've been working hard for finally pans out?!

So if you happen to have any mottled pullets you need to get rid of, please let me know. I did okay with the silky hatch, they are looking real good. But not so great on the cochins and the boys I have would love some mottled girls.

Thanks again, everyone. I called the (I think this is what it's called...) Perma-Guard DE help line, and they did give me the name and number of a rep here. I'll check out these other links, too.

Yes, this is definitely an addiction-I can totally relate. I have gotten on here and posted many times that I will never hatch out chicks. What the heck would I do with baby chicks? blah, blah, blah. As some of you may know already, I recently hatched out the most adorable little Welsummers from eggs that Opa gave me. I just happened to have the bator going with duckling eggs (justification for that is that a chef in Ann Arbor wants me to produce ducklings for meat). Opa just happened to bring me a few of his Welsummer eggs...sooooo.... I HAD to do it, right?

Well, those little Welsummers are so darned cute. I'm in love. Now I can't wait to get my hands on a couple of his blue orp eggs, and I'm thinking now that I've gotta have some cochin frizzles (even though I have no idea what the heck those are-it just sounds cool). Yep, my name is Yaklady and I'm a chickie addict.

Out of that hatch on the 9th, I've got 9 chicks for sale...all smooth feathered and it looks like 8 of them will be mottled. But they're too young to sex right now. I may be taking them to the Imlay swap on Saturday...but if I don't sell them and end up with some pullets, I'll for sure let you know. Sorry to hear of your hatch woes...but I'm glad the Silkies are doing well for you.

What do you do for a rooster that forgot how to be a rooster?!?!?!?!

We seperated everyone this fall so the hens could grow feathers back and have a break. Well, Rachel's roo does the wing dance and follows the ladies around but he hasn't mounted anything and he has been with them for weeks.......

Any thoughts would be helpful

I don't know about kelp as an animal supplement. I do know people that get it at health food stores. It is a type of seaweed, so I would imagine that it is a bit expensive. The salad bar green is kale. I would LOVE to have a supply of it to use as feed. I tried to grow it last year, but it was too cold & too dry. (Plus, I am a lame gardener...

Have a great day, Chicken Folks!

So happy your hatch did so well, Shelley!! Wish I lived closer to you, would love to see all those babies....well, I guess it's better that I don't live closer. I'd be in so much trouble.
