Good Morning BYC Michiganders, I now remember why we do not incubate eggs in a home made brooder. Sleepless nights worrying about temperature fluctuations. Drilling new holes because when I cook dinner the bator creeps toward 102 degrees. ARGH! Why did I take those hatching eggs? You are all laughing at me right now, I know you are. Admit it:)

Hello Everyone. Hope everyone is well. Quick question: Is there anyone in the Lansing area that has two khaki campbell or cayuga ducklings for sale? I would prefer either a drake and hen or two hens if possible. I had some ordered but they didn't hatch

Would be willing to drive about half hour one way to pick up.

Well the day started a little on the cool side but it is shaping up to be a pretty reasonable day. A friend gave me a business card for a chicken processor that is in Durand. It's called The Pines and I spoke with Frank and they have a USDA certified facility and he was very knowledgeable and quite pleasant to talk with. If you are looking for someone to process all of the cornish x's so many of you are raising you might want to give him a call at 810-845-9338.

Good afternoon BYC friends, It sure is turning into a very nice day. I am hoping to finish fencing off my flower beds today. I am in a very happy mood today.

I have to share a story with y'all. A couple of months ago my oldest son convinced me to have a Facebook account. I mostly did it because I wanted to find one particular friend and tried other means of finding her. She and I were best friends from 6th grade. We ended up going to different middle and high schools but remained close friends. We lived in Georgia at the time. When we were in the tenth grade she moved to Indiana.

We tried to stay in touch but it was difficult. The last time I heard from her I was about 18. After setting up the facebook account I tried again to find her. She had a very common last name and for all I knew she would have gotten married by now. So I had no luck again.

Till yesterday, I got an e mail from her.

She had been trying to find me for years also. She still has pictures of me in her wallet. And the best part is that these two girls from Georgia....... are now both living in Michigan!!!! She is only about 35 miles from me and has been here for the past 16 years. I have been here for 21.

Needless to say we will be getting together on Sunday!

I am still in shock.

She and I both have a son named Joshua and both of our moms died from pancreatic cancer.

That's pretty funny. So of makes sense if you are planning on killing old birds.

I'm looking at the business card and it reads "The Pines" chicken processing Durand, call Frank, 810-845-9338

I know the phone number is good since I talked with him this morning.

Laura, that's pretty amazing. I'm happy for you. In 1964 I went in the Army with a friend on the "buddy plan". We went sent to different unit 6 wks later and I never saw him again. Recently he contacted me through facebook. Nice to know what happened to him.

Thats really cool HBH... you've probably seen them and didn't even know it! Lots of people Nay Say FB, but I've also found a few friends there, or surprised when old friends were looking for me. Even more so, surprised by the highschool people that friend me.. but wouldn't have anything to do with me back then... go figure! LOL!

Have a blast Sunday!

I just hatched out some Cayuga ducklings. I also have some Cayuga/Pekin crosses. I'm near Northville/Ann Arbor. Shoot me a PM if interested.

After supper I went out to the shop and finished the barrel composters. Tomorrow I have to mount them on the posts and they will be operational. I think they should work out real well to dispose of all the chicken manure.

I was at Home Depot today and they have a package of two black metal AAA flashlights, one is about 3 inches long with 9 LEDs, and the other is 8 inches long with 8 LEDs and a red lazer pointer. I tried them on some very dark Welsummer eggs and they both worked quite well. The surprising thing is that they only cost $4.97 including the AAA batteries.
