Matuse is a Sebastopol gosling. She's about 2 wks old. She is huge, 3 times the size of the duckling who is 4wks old. LOL She's really a hoot. Dont know why I didnt get geese before? Guess having them 20 some years ago, they were more of an annoyance than a pleasure. They were mean and bit the kids all the time. But then, I didnt raise them from babies..they were dropped off here.

Im having a riot with her, she follows me everywhere and when I sit down she is right in my lap. At night now, I bring her in with her duckling and in a tote next to my bed they go. They quiet right down and sleep. They are learning so guick, both of them. They are almost dog like.

Doh! For some reason I thought duck.

I like geese too

My daughter doesn't do well with geese or swans.

I've watched them chase her down since she was little. The funniest incident was with a black swan though.

Blue moon, you really ARE a thread killer! No posts for 6 hours here.

Mixed weather brought mixed work completed. My big mission was to get the ducks out of the house, and mission accomplished.

They've moved into stage 2 quarters - dog kennel in the garage. I know it's been said before, but it bears repeating - DUCKS ARE SLOBS!

I should post a picture of their brooder after 2 minutes but I'll spare everyone the sight of pure hideousness.

On the other hand, ooopsey, keep posting about Matuse, I loved the picture of her swimming underwater.

Thread Killer Extraordinaire!

I managed to get my potato buckets done. I had to put some scrap chicken wire on top because The Wynette Boys, and their crew of cackling hens came along and eyeballed my buckets. I know one of them was thinking of taking a dust bath.

The weatherman got it wrong, they said no rain until after midnight.

We've had rain on and off since this morning. At least it's warm though.

So we made it back from Wolf Lake, it was fun, but a little disappointing this time. TONS of puppies, it has turned into a puppy mill! Kind of sad.

We did find a nice turkey hen for Krisrose and some pullets for a friend of Babette's, and a couple of carriers for myself, but had no luck finding the rest of our list. Krisrose wanted some duck hatching eggs for a friend, something pretty, no luck. Babette was looking for a female cayuga, she lost hers this winter and her boy is lonely. She is also looking for a mottled jap cockerel or rooster, so if anyone has these things, please let her or I know. My daughter wanted a young bearded dragon and the big reptile breeder that is usually there didn't show up. There were two smaller breeders who had lots of stuff but no bearded dragons. Babette did pick up a young pair of Narragansett turkeys, probably a month old?, if anyone is interested.

We also saw a guy selling a really nice chicken tractor, super light, easy to move, clean, etc. We told him he should visit BYC, since he had such a nice product!!

Serious, it was awesome!!

I need help badly.

I keep my LaMancha dairy goats with a neighbor/friend. My adult doe had chronic diarrhea last week and after seeking vet care, I found out that she had strongyles. I got some dewormer and have been dosing her with that. Well, the "friend" stopped over today saying that she doesn't want my goats on her property any longer since all of her goats will get strongyles now and she sells the milk (sorta) illegally in the thriving underground milk ring and said she can't afford to have goat milk she can't sell. In the meantime, my goat isn't allowed out of her pen and not allowed on the milkstand even though I'm still milking her.

I had promised DH when I got the goats that they would not be over on our property and he is not relenting.

I either need to find a home for the goats or someone local (WEST BRANCH PEOPLE!!! WHERE ARE YOU!!!) to board them for me otherwise they have to go to the meat processors.

I'm in Arenac County, between Standish and West Branch. PM me for phone number

3 goats

4 yr old LaMancha doe, currently lactating but needs a few more days until I can drink her milk.

4 month old twins: Bear & Sable, wether and doeling. Dam raised for 3 weeks, bottle fed until 12 weeks.

Please, I REALLY don't have the heart to take them to the meat processors.

How do you do your potato buckets? I am always looking for different ways of growing potatoes!

We only had rain here this morning here in Milford! I did see lots of dark clouds out your way though.

Michickenwrangler, I am sorry you are in such a tight spot. I hope you find a place for your goats soon. I don't know much about strongyles, any idea where it came from? I mean, it seems funny, your goat got it and not hers. Especially since it sounds like she deals with more "goat people" than you, but then maybe I am misunderstanding the situation. Can't they get it from an infected pasture? Also, curious, why you can't have them at your own home? Goats are pretty easy to care for, don't eat that much, just wondering what the problem is? I know everyone's situation is different, but I couldn't let my guys go to the meat market either, they would be staying here until they found a new home, period!

Wish I could help, but not even close to your area.

I get frosting/icing buckets from the walmart bakery. Where I go, they are free, but some places might charge a little bit. Drill holes in the bottom, and add some small rocks for drainage.

Then add a little layer of compost/good soil. Put in seed potato ( cut them into smaller pieces if they are large potatoes. ) Cover them a little with compost/soil. Then add a layer of straw.

Repeat as potato grows until one inch from the top of bucket. Then just wait til the right time.

I've used tires in the past, and even black trash cans.

Wrangler -- I'm sorry I can't help. We'd like dairy goats sometime in the future too, but are just not set up for it. Are the CAE/CL tested? I can put some feelers out locally and see if anyone is interested.

You might print off some information about Strongyles (and parasites in general) for your friend though as she's sorely misunderstanding what she's dealing with. If she pulled a fecal on every goat on the pasture it is likely a number of them are carrying small strongyle loads, your doe, for whatever reason (genetic predisposition, recent stress that lowered her immune system, etc) just happens to have picked up a load that is causing physical symptoms and needs to be addressed. And keeping her off pasture now is of no help. She's already been wormed (what are you using, btw?) so the strongyles she's shedding now are already dead. She has been shedding all over the pasture for some time now, the damage is done. Most animals will not carry a detrimental load without any human intervention at all, her goats, regardless of all this, are probably going to be just fine.
