I failed Moving the Ducks 101.

I had my ducks outside all day long- but when it got dark I could hear them peeping ie: calling for mama, and I relented and "saved" them. I scooped them up and they snuzzled their bills into my shirt sleeves and I snuggled them, and now they are sleeping in the dog bed, locked in the bathroom.

I guess I will end up sleeping outside because I do not know how long my family will tolerate sharing the bathroom with ducks. And I cant leave the poor dears outside all alone to cry and cry.

In other news,
my hen is sick. She seems slow, her feathers are ragged, and her wattles and comb are very pale. She is Carmen, the hen that started all of this for me. The rest are just chickens- she is more, much much more. She is the reason I have all the others that i have- the reason I dont report the neighbors barking dog, and put up with everything in the neighborhood silently. No casting stones when you are harboring illegal chickens. She followed us about the yard today, but didnt want any worms that my husband dug up for her- didnt want any cheerios either ( one of her favorite treats).
Im worried about her.

Mama Turkens banty babies are growing! A couple of them flew ontop of the plow today to roost. And more of them are brave enough to follow Mama out of the chicken yard and out onto the lawn, now also. Only for a few minutes though, because the ones that dont follow start peeping and she runs back in.

Hope everyone enjoyed the afternoon.

Sorry. I live too far away.
Olive Hill is right. All the goats will have worms and for some reason they got the best of your milker. She could have come with them or picked them up on your friends farm.
Good luck.

if she ends up taking them.

Apparently, this was supposed to be a temporary situation even if nothing was explicitly stated. I can take hints, but I wish she would have given me more than a week to find homes for them!

She's trying to run her goats as a business for write-offs and I asked, "Didn't you say that my goats helped pay for the others?"

"Yes, but I don't need your money. I can fudge books to make it look like a profit. I don't want to make too big of a profit otherwise it will be taxed."

Yet for some reason she still expects me to buy milk from her when my goats are gone.

There are organic cow shares and a goat share nearby that I'll try to get.

DH keeps putting his foot down, no goats at home. He's into the chickens, but was under the impression that I was going to keep the goats over there. Everything took him by surprise and he's angry at me, angry at her, angry at the situation, etc ...

The morning started off with a bang and it now looks like it's going to be wet all day. The weatherman basically stated that it will rain until it quits. I sure would like a job like his. Looks like there is a real good chance of having some severe weather later this afternoon. Hopefully when it's time for the birds to go to roost it isn't raining since I will have to go out and make sure that the chicks have gone inside.

My favorite thing that weather forecasters say is "30% chance of rain." Basically meaning "it shouldn't rain today, but don't get mad if it does."

The job I want is SVSU library ass't. When I was in college, I went to the library to return a book. The college guy at the desk was reading a magazine with his feet propped up.

"I need to renew this."

Without looking up, he said "You can do that online."

I'd like a job where I can tell people that they can do my job online.

Hey Everyone! I'm new to chickens as of last week when my husband went to TSC to get a mower belt and came home with 6 baby chicks, then went back to TSC the next day to discover that they were on clearance, he took my 3 year old daughter with him and they chose out 8 more at 50 cents a piece!lol.SO on goes our chicken keeping. We are going to build a coop here soon(any advice on that would be great) and just wanted to introduce my elf and say hi to the fellow Michigandars! We are located in Potterville.

MommaHen Welcome to the Michigan thread. 14 chicks? You realize that the addiction is only going to get worse don't you? Be sure to click on the link to Chickenstock in my signature line. It's coming soon and is being held very close to you. You'll get to meet some really nice people and this year we are also having an egg hunt for the little kids so your daughter will have fun as well.

Welcome Mommahen!! I am also new to chickens and am enjoying them more than I thought I could! I have a 4 year old daughter that LOVES them so much. She has one that lets her carry her around all over the place! lol

We also didn't plan on having as many as we do, but what's a few more, right?

Hey, isn't Potterville where they have the chicken gizzard festival? Sounds like fun!!

FlyingFChick, Welcome to the Michigan thread. It's amazing just how many nice people I have met as a result of this thread. Be sure to click on the link for Chickestock in my signature line. If the chick get to large to ride on your daughter's head I have 42 eggs that have been in the bator for a week so I will soon have a bunch of chicks whe could be a new head rider from.
