Hi All.....

Boy lots happened today. Sorry Wynette about the chicken.

On our way home from piano lessons, we had 3 red tail hawks with rabbits. One was a mile from the house right in the road. He tried to pick it up and fly away, but it was too heavy. Beautiful bird, got to drive slowly past him. The other 2 were in our driveway with a rabbit too. They flew into the tree and waited for us to pass. Neat to see the wildlife in the cold temps.

We just enjoyed a chicken in the crock pot. We got propane so all the side were cooked on the stove!!! Next year we will have to raise more, the family is eating more:)

I am off to work. I am a massage therapist. I work part-time in the evening. I have my business in the corner of my husbands shop, so I don't have to travel very far.

Talk to you all tomorrow,
Sarah

M_J Thanks for sharing the recipe

I also started to cook two chickens at once, I can usually stretch it to at least 2, sometimes 3 meals. I boil the carcass too and make soup and homemade bread. Anything to save a buck! It cost a ton to feed everyone.

Wynette-sorry for your loss

you are so welcome! it is really cheap to make and tastes 'expensive'.

we had Buttermilk Bread tonight with the meal. so tender and soft.
it's a good bread that tastes 'fancy' but doesn't drain the budget either.

if you have good money savers, share away! start a thread!

Sorry to hear of the loss Wynette.

Thanks Sam for the info, I'll mention to the Mrs. and have it put in the memory banks for next year.

Was a busy afternoon here.....first off 13/16 today in the egg count, up from 9/16. Little lady owns a small country store not far from me, she and I talk about religion ( yeah, I'm a religious fella, but I keep it to myself) and how things touch our life, anyway I bring her a dozen eggs every week (free) when she asks if she can pay for them, I tell her it is a act of kindness.

She gave me a lb. of bacon a few years ago that was outdated...I wanted to pay for it, but she wouldn't take any money since it was outdated (one day) I really enjoy giving her those eggs.

Then I got the rest of the corn hauled home in the gravity wagon that should heat our house the rest of the year. Cleaned out the coop, fed the hogs, dogs, rabbit and cat.....then got a peck on the cheek from my wife

after she got home from quilting (she does some fantastic work) watched the news( I'm not going there) and sat down here to read and enjoy the forum.
