Looks like a great day again today. arggg got about another 20 cockrels to butcher yet .. ok who gona come on up and help out

then the work comes for GF and that is getting the canner running for a few hours. Least it is not 90+ while doing it. Ok Hillbilly ya could make a trip up here

I actually seen that posting! The only issue is that he's still a stud, I have 2 mares at home. The one is fine with studs but my mare is really really bad when it comes to being around studs. He's absolutely adorable though that's for sure!!!

Just picked up two beautiful boys today from Tiempo (aka Alison)! It was a rough start with the other two roosters we have. The Serama still thinks he's king so he's walking around like he's just waiting for the new boys to start something. So far the boys are just showing off for the girls, who are not yet interested in them. One of the newbies went to gently peck her on the cheek and she let him know that wasn't liked at all. Can't say as I blame her, I don't like some strange men coming up to me and kissing me when I don't know them!! lol Now everyone has taken their corners and that's where they stayed...until Aric threw in 4 ears of corn and a massive cucumber (enough for all these chickens and more!) and feed. Now everyone is friends again!

Forgot to ask something else.

I've got some speckleds that were hatched out late april/early may and some of them are a bit hard to sex. I know this breed tends to have larger combs on the hens sometimes and a hen's posture (sp?) is very cocky looking (like tail at 90degree angle like a roo) but is there a reliable way to sex them besides comb size and posture? I've looked at the feathers on the neck as well to see if their pointy or round...I swear 3 of them in there are hermaphradites LOL

Can't figure out what sex they are! I've already picked out the 2 roo's I want to keep but I'd like to know if they're pullets or roo's before I send them off.

I was gone for two days.. up in Gladwin area. Had to paint the cottage... they put in drywall. Before I left... I put in fresh water for the girls... and loads and loads of food... I figured my hubby would not go check on them....... ( which he didn't)... I came home late last night... so this morning went to clean the coop and feed them some fresh food... they were real glad to see me...
I forgot to take the cap off of the waterer!!!!!

Thank good ness they had the other one in the coop!

My goodness if I had been gone longer , what would they have done!! I can't believe it is so hard for some people just to go back there and check on the animals!!

I know they will eat their eggs when and if they start to lay them...

Any who... going back to Gladwin on Saturday.... I will make sure the ladies... have everything they need...won't make that mistake again. Just for me to leave for two days... I have to prepare for two day...heaven forbid.. someone would have to cook their own meal or do anything for themselves... Sheesh...

Glad your chickens are OK

My DH usually doesn't check on them either, but he at least will occasionally give them scratch and gather eggs while I'm gone

Maybe I might do that some day!! I am soooo busy right now... I don't even see any roses to smell..

My Husband just wants to retire... Can't say that I blame him... he has worked so hard all his life... but I ask him... when do I get to retire...

I am cuttin the grass... painting... gardening... and all the other maintain things... he just sits eats and drinks when he gets home... Oh my goodness.. it is raining right now...!!!! YEAH><<< we haven't had any rain in week!! it just keeps on passing all around us.... like the plague... my lawn is crunchy!!! There is however a green spot in the grass way back by the coop where the pipe has been leaking for months... (told him about that too) guess I have to get my tools out...cause the pressure is down today...

Oh where oh where would that be without us... or where or where should I be....
