Hey everyone! My name is Keyt (pronounced Kate) and we live Eaton Rapids, the mid-michigan area, about 20 miles from Lansing. I'm still trying to figure this thing out. We just started with ducks and chickens. I grew up in Saugatuck at my sister's ranch when I was growing up so I have some experience with farm animals, but it's like starting over too. We have approximately 15 chickens and 3 ducklings. It's SO much fun!

So, I look forward to learning more from the more experienced people on here!!

Huston's Happy Hens :

We sure did enjoy our visit with you and Steve. How's his leg doing? Have a nice vacation? Nancy, did you ever think of just leaving your hens in the run, and not allow them access to the wooded area and see if you would find more eggs? Maybe for a few days? I still say there's a nest or two that you haven't found out there!

Maybe the nest boxes are a bit small for the larger birds. They seem to like the bigger totes, etc. It's hard to say. Just some thoughts. I know they should be laying you two eggs each a day with the heaven they have there! Just is so strange!

Thanks Rose, it was nice having you and KrisRose too! I'm fairly confident we're going to be making a trek to KrisRose's home and bring her a couple of the egg eaters if she'll still have them! Had success w/one of them for about 4 days and now she's right back at it! Yes, when it cools down later this wk I'm going to fence everyone off and see how the production goes! Steve's counting down to getting that cast off and then well see what it feels like to put wt on the ankle/heel....

I'll keep you posted...Cast removal is down to 12 days 6 hours! Hey, the triplets (from ckstock) were up on the deck yesterday morn....looked so cute perched on the backs of the chairs...of course steve didn't think it was that cute! he's the only one that's got time to sit! so i ran in and got my camera, took a few pics, set to review and the humitity was so HIGH, that the pics are all fogged! I'm sure they'll be back...I'm going to wait until steve has his cast off and we can band all of them before we put them in with the rest of the flock...i don't know what i'll do w/myself when i've only got 1 flock to take care of! btw, the backyard flock (minus the triplets) have found their way around the fencing separating the backyard from the woods and are loving it over there near the swamp. BUG HEAVEN!

Welcome Keyt! There are many helpful and experienced people here. It sounds like you're starting with a gang! What kinds of chickens and ducks do you have?

Is it raining everywhere in Mi? It is down here in the SE - light but steady.

It is overcast, here in Bay City. I really appreciate the cooler weather. It's nice to let my hair down, literally. I think my hair was up in a bun or ponytail for two months. Also, I was able to give my coop a good cleaning, yesterday.

Good morning. Or not so good... I already had to burry a chicken. She was just dead in the coop. Hadn't been sick. Who knows. Than in the house the window in the tv room shattered..... Again who knows....

I don't need anymore who knows today.

to the newbies! Glad you found us. Vicki2x2 and Babszoo both are in ER! So, you have someone close by to help you if you need it, Keyt.
Sorry about your bad start, Briana. Hope it gets better for you! Don't have any extra animals to take care of today. Krisrose is home today and nasty neighbor came home, so I don't have to walk his dog.... without his permission!

Hope you all have a great day! Love the drop in humidity. Yeah, maybe I can go outside to do some yardwork!

Hey Vicki2x2 - how old is that Welsummer rooster you gave me? He was making a croaky crowing noise this morning, also strutting his stuff, but the girls are just looking at him like, " You've got to be KIDDING me."

To be honest, I am not sure. My Word program crashed and all my records of hatchings were on it, still trying to recover it! GRRR!!! I have his brother, he does a pitiful crow also
gig.gif
well, he did, until I threw him into the adult wellie pen, now he is strangely silent! Me thinks he is afraid of the BIG ROOSTER!!
