It gets easier. I am getting faster at plucking. Another week or so and I can butcher my last 4 for the season. Do you cut yours up or leave them whole?

Ok. Sad morning today, my oldest just got one the Middle School bus for his first day of school. Exciting day for him! A little sad for me.

Due to the super early mornings for the next 10 years I am finally taking the time to use that exercise stuff we have in the basement. I am hoping to do this every weekday morning and am looking for a bit of accountability from my friends on BYC. I hope to post each morning or so to help myself keep track that I am actually doing it.

My grandson is going to kindergarten in the afternoons... so I have told my daughter that I will go to the gym... (gym membership I am paying monthly for)...when I drop him off...We will see if this works... probably not.. so much to do.. when he is in school. (for 3 hours)..

Gallinamama yep I am doing this you should too. 30 minutes is all I am doing right now. I figure I can fit 30 mins in. Instead of sitting in the living room to watch the news I am turning it on in the basement and working out while I watch it.

I know I should... It is just one thing I do not make time for...I need to start focusing on me... thirty to fourty pounds would be my goal... I am 50 lbs over weight by the charts standards but I am not looking to be a size1 or even a 7... I am not twenty any longer... but I would like to get off my metformin. might not be possible with my family history but I can try. as they say.."wouldn't hurt".

briana1975... LIke today.. cleaned some of the house. washed a few loads of clothes, fed the chickens, started some spaghetti sauce and took my grandson to school but my daughter came by with my granddaughter and I had to take her to see the kids doctor... went to get some lunch and back home... now I have to pick up my grandson by 3:00... day gone already... sheesh!! so much for that plan.

Ladies, exciting to hear that others are starting to get into shape! I get up at 5am and exercise from 5:30-6:30 6 days a week at the neighbors house. It is the only way I get it done. I always seem to have interuptions during the day.

Keep up the great work!
Sarah

should say that feeding the chickens took a bit longer today... I was petting one of my hens.. and dang ole rooster came after me so fast I didn't have time to react.. he got out of the run and I had a good 20 min. trying to chase him down... after I caught him... (yes, this 55 year old can still run)

I had him by the wings and neck... I told him that I would put him in the fryer if he doesn't quit it.... now I know I have two roosters at least.... that plymouth rock... was doing his thing today....!!! maybe two in the pot...

GotChicken? :

I went out to check on the chooks at 9 pm yesterday, and guess who was in the trap? That's right.

Would you like to guess who went for a swim in our pond after I tied a rope to the trap? That's right.

Normally, I would not do such a thing to an animal, but I flashed in my mind the memories of all the chickens she killed, their personalities, their quirks, and all the funny, goofy, annoying (but forgivable) things they did. Then I thought about the way they died; chased down, viciously brutalized, stricken with panic, no hope of escape.

That made it very easy.

And yes, I did say she. I'm going to have traps out for the next three weeks, seeing if there are other members of her family I should be concerned about. But the main perpetrator is gone. I even took the carcass out to pen and showed it to the chooks. Squeaker freaked when he saw it, but perked up as he watched me drop the carcass on the ground, kick it, etc. So now they know that it's dead, and they're behavior is starting to show it. They're getting bored being in the coop all day, but I plan to keep them in there for at least a week as a precaution.

My broody hen seems to like being in the house. She's so focused on her duty that she barely makes a sound; my dad has to check on her every once in a while just to assure himself that she's not dead. Tomorrow is day 19, so we'll see if any of her egglings hatch out real soon.

SO glad you don't have to worry about her coming back....and that you know what to do to get 'em. Sad for your loss.

I am looking for a young (preferably under 3 months) male call duck and preferably a much younger mallard. Can anyone help? I know it's pretty much out of season but I was hoping someone could help me!

Hey Gang - I'm looking for some input here - perhaps you've heard the story...3 broodies....been 4 wks...no babes - ordered babes today should be here tomorrow - does anyone have experience leaving broodies in with the main flock AND/OR experience with housing 2 broodies together? It's a double dog house w/run...thanks!
