Ever since that post, Aric has said he would gladly make pies (omg can he bake and cook!!) or anything for some laying chickens LOL
So, Monday we picked up 5 ducks and yesterday we picked up 3 ducks and a Barred Rock. Here they are!
We traded 4 Belgian Quail hens and a BQ rooster for 3 Cayugas. As we got ready to leave Aric mentioned we needed more laying hens so the lady gaves us this nice BR! She was nice enough to lay and egg this morning woohoo!!
I said I didn't want Pekins....but I got two and I LOVE them!!
Especially the one on the right!
LOVE this gorgeous pair of Mallards! Now we definitely need to track down a working water pump (ours died) with this many ducks sharing the pond!!! Aric's daughter Kathrine wanted Mallards so it worked out perfect!!
The green Cayuga in the back is my original (and still my fave) Sadie. The other one I picked up last night
The 3 new Cayuga ladies I picked up last night. I just HAD to have those gray ones I love their markings
They both have beautiful markings, but this one really stands out!
The female, Sandi that is identical to the male, Jax I got from Kim. Jax loves her!
So, due to the addition of so many new ducks especially, an addition had to be made. The ducks get let out when one of us is outside (which is all the time usually), but when we're not outside or not home, they have their own run. When we had just 8, it was ok, but another 11 makes it harder. All the ducks and chickens have been sleeping in the barn at night, but we might utilize the old red chicken coop (hasn't been used since we only had 15 chickens months ago!) for most of the ducks. When they all come out in the morning, the smaller ducks and chickens tend to get trampled on in the rush to get out so the separation is necessary!
You can see the line where the original run went to. Like I said, it was fine when there were just 8 ducks. They loved it! But now it's too crowded!
Now as you see the duck run goes down the side of the chicken area. That will be expanded too! You can see the field behind all of this where the ducks can roam when we are outside.
