LOVE that post. We certainly NEED more female chickens (just not the duck thing now woohoo) and Aric makes FANTASTIC pies, but with gas at over $3 a gallon, we just couldn't make it to Midland. That's a creative post though!
SO, like I said, our need for more female ducks has been filled. We have managed to pick up 8 ducks in 24 hours. 5 thanks to Vicki and the other 3 in trade for the 5 Belgian Quails I've been trying to find homes for. Ironically which also came from Vicki.
Yesterday Vicki msg'd me asking if I wanted to take in 6 ducks she and her friend had. They had too many and one was a special needs duck. As soon as i got there and saw this little lady, I HAD to have her!! They ended up keeping one of the Pekins, so I got to take 2 Pekin females, a pair of gorgeous Mallards and a female Runner that is identical to the male one I got not long ago from Kim. But, before we picked them up we had talked to a lady about some ducks she was wanting to trade for the BQ. We get there and I picked out 3 Cayugas. We managed to mention we needed young hens too and she gave us a spring BR hen!!! OH WOW did we luck out the last couple of days.
However, this has led to the need to expand the duck run. It was perfect for 11 ducks, but now we have 19! Fortunately the barn is plenty big enough!!
So, here's my special needs baby. She is now the love of my life. I love all my ducks beyond measure, but this one tugs at my heart!!
Still need to come up with a special name. She's quiet and sweet. The other new ones are all nice too, but having many disabilities myself, this one and I have some things in common!
My only concern is with this winter. I don't want her beak to get chapped or tongue freeze.
I have all the pics on my facebook. I'll try to get some of them set up to post here soon...unless you want to find me there!
