Good Morning all!
To day I need to go to work for a couple of hours but tomorrow it will be out Doors for me. I am so glad the weather is going to stay reasonable this week.

I have so much I need to get done before the snow flies.
Thanks olive Hill for answering my question.

It looks like I may be able to paint the chicken tractor!
I dont want all that unprotected wood out all winter!
(and I wanna see it painted!)

I hope everyone enjoys the weather this week. I plan to soak in as much as I can! I am NOT a winter person!

I'm looking forward to the warm weather to finish up some stuff!

The following week I hope is cold and snows about a foot!!! I'll be deer hunting that whole week and I cannot wait, not only to finally have a vacation, but to be hunting with my family!!!

We've got a couple girls coming to stay with us, from Austria, they're traveling through the US for 4 months. Makes me a bit nervous (cause we're not home during the day and we don't know them, other than we're friends with their step dad), but it could be fun too. I was thinking about having them clean the chicken run out (dad said to put them to work, plus, that should shorten their stay!) LOL!

It's not uncommon to travel like this in Europe, stay at peoples homes. We were invited to do the same when, IF, we can ever get back over there.

Done! LOL! (at least till we put the 2nd floor on the coop area. Hehehe.)
The flowers I painted on the coop door and nesting box will have to be a brighter pink. They seem to fade in.
The ape-hangers are the legs of an old folding chair and the grips are probably off of one of our motorcycles.

Missy has stopped trying to herd the girls into the coop during the day (finally) and they seem very content in our yard.
We are leaving the plastic off of the run area for the rest of this week and the wind blocks for the vent areas at the top of the coop area.

We still have to add the preditor skirt and seal up the ceiling of the coop area. I guess that plastic roofing was not a good idea. I don't want any condensation in there.

Sure hope the girls like it!

2 Brahma girls!

Your tractor is so cute!!

My chickens roost on a shelf but I think they would be warmer all cuddled up in the bedding. But, they like their roost so who am I to argue. lol The weather is great. I have the last bit of leaves to rake up and then I am putting up Christmas lights. Who likes doing it in the snow? Gotta take advantage of the weather.

OKAY! Any ideas on getting these girls to lay? They are 6.5months old and not a single sign of an egg.

I've always found that hens are usually healthier and happier and better layers when raised up from a chick at the house they'll be laying at, but these girls are just not even thinking about laying.
Any ideas? Maybe I'll go out there and chase them with a vacuum and try to suck the eggs out!

That chicken tractor is just adorable!!! You're going to have some happy chickies!

The tractor looks great, Celia!

Jen, what breeds do you have? What are you feeding them? Are you supplementing light?

Well, here's the Narr hen as of this morning; still alive and well:

I think it is because you have a nice heritage breed Jenny, not a production breed that they are taking their own sweet time! Good news is, they will lay for a lot longer than the production birds who usually burn out faster.
