I have an objection and have a right to post it on this thread just as you did.
You are right that this is not high school. Everbody has a right to give their opinion. You gave yours and other folks gave theirs. Thats what grown-ups do.
And in my opinion most people who decorate their homes are not fake, they just enjoy Christmas. They even enjoy those sappy songs that started on the radio after Halloween.
Good luck with your surgery.

edited for typo!!

Thanks Krisrose for defending my "stupid lights" that we put up for the grandkids and neighborhood kids to enjoy and I love the "sappy" X-mas music. It's just so happy sounding and makes me happy. Christmas lives in the heart, and if one wants to let it out...so be it!
Glad to see the MIA's are back to post again!! Hi Sam and Sarah! Hope your Thanksgiving was fantastic!

Those xmas songs make me want to barf

I'm sorry I got so upset. I just get very defensive when people act like they know me. Just like you said, we all have our opinions. My opinions have already been stated. I hate the holidays not just because of my biological family, but because of how fake so many people are around this time of year! People treat each other like junk until this time! Also the statement about if I was happier I would stay out of the ER.

That has absolutely nothing to do with it! First of all, I am happier than I have ever been. I even stated that this Thanksgiving was the best yet because the only family member I had here was my daughter. She gets treated like junk by our family too.

I don't have to over-decorate my home, light it up with a bunch of stupid lights or play a bunch of sappy xmas music to be happy. I'm not a fake person by any means.

There. That's all I'm going to say on the issue and I'd appreciate it if anyone has an objection, take it privately. This forum is not the place for this to keep going on!! This is NOT high school!!

Opinions are one thing, assumptions and statements as if someone knows me is uncalled for! I like varied opinions. Especially since I have an adult child whose disability prevents her from making decisions or having an opinion.

Christmas lights have become an out of control competition. When I can't sleep because the lights across the street/yard are shining into my bedroom (seems to happen almost everywhere I live

lol), I can call it out of control. When I can't watch normal television (because I refuse to have cable tv for the time being) because it's all Christmas crap, I am ticked. Same goes for the radio, shopping in a store or reading a store's ad. It was so much nicer when it was just a little here or there. Now it starts early November and goes til January. I didn't mean to generalize about people liking that stuff, but where I get upset is about the people (as I stated long ago) who act SO stupidly happy about the holidays, but the ones that act the happiest are generally the ones who are the meanest, lie the most and treat people the worst the rest of the year. I noticed this when I was teaching elementary and middle school. I also worked a couple of retail jobs. Those jobs and the media have pretty much ruined my enjoyment in the holidays.

Actually, my hatred toward the holidays have kinda become a joke now. Until I moved here in January, I spent 2 years at a large apartment complex. Last year for my daughter I set up my white xmas tree. It comes with white lights, then I add blue ones. In 1980 and 1981 my mom and I spent the season painting ceramic light up houses. I still have the whole village (about 25 buildings and various figures, trees, etc) and it always goes under the tree. I hadn't set it up in a few years so my daughter wanted to put it up. I set it right next to my sliding door so anyone going down Okemos Rd or in the buildings across from me or walking down the center sidewalk could all see it. One day last year a friend of mine who lived there said she was talking to the manager who lived in the building across from me. The manager said my tree and village was absolutely gorgeous from her apt. Karen then told her I took it down. To make a long story short, I guess (and I honestly don't remember it) I took it down and put it up 8 times. This includes the village

Why I don't know. I just remember sitting there watching tv with the tree about 10 feet from me and it ticked me off

Ok, ok, just to prove I haven't always been a grinch and I am a very nice person (which I guess I haven't proven in my posts lately), and I even have a sense of humor.....

This is my tree set up at an apartment I lived in 4 years ago. I love it. I got it for free when I worked at Walmart years ago. It's not big but it's very bright. Most of the ornaments on it are at least 30 years old!

That is the village I mentioned in the previous post. Actually, it's not all of it. I didn't have room to put it all up when I lived there. The church in the back has real mini stained glass my mom did for it (I still do stained glass when I can afford to). The candy store and post office my mom hand painted my name on "Katie's candy store" and "Katie's Post Office". The big tree has a set of christmas lights for a real tree on it and some of the presents under it have my name too.

I have a Toy and a Tiny Toy Poodle. They are sisters and their birthday is Christmas Eve. This pic was taken at their first birthday party (they will be 4 this year). Yes, I had a party for them lol

These are my three best dogs. The one in the middle, Chipper was almost completely blind for many years. I adopted him in 2000 a month after my mom died. He was hit by a car this past April, a few months before his 17th birthday.

n734105700_824649_896.jpg

This is Mimi (named after my mom). That year I took pics of all the dogs together and individually in front of the tree, then turned it into a collage for various things.

This is Bree, Gaelic for lucky. The month before this I found him in the locked basement of my building, literally minutes from dying. There is no way he could have gotten down there himself. It was a basement that echoed too. So I believe someone starved him then took him down there. I saved him with Pedialyte and baby food. A month before this pic was taken he couldn't walk, talk or eat!

This year a friend of mine sent all my dogs a gift certificate to Drs Foster & Smith (FANTASTIC place!!) website. I then bought them pajamas (Poodles get very cold very easily), very warm coats and several other things. This is the girls in their pajamas. Gidget tried singing Christmas caroles LOL

In their coats gifted by that friend. They will sometimes fight me when I try to take them off!

My beloved Chipper. He would sit in any position I put him in for pics!

This is the year the girls turned 1. I think Mimi was laughing at me because I was having a hell of a time getting everyone to sit together

See...I'm not all bad!

As the unofficial grumpy old rooster on this thread I think we have had enough ruffled feathers and cackling. It's the time of year to listen to nothing but egg songs.
