It was warmer than the winter before it, but since the winter of 2008-09 gave us negative 20 and 30s for weeks and weeks on end it didn't take much to be warmer. Last year was very much comparable to this winter, if you ask me. More snow last year though. I bought a new gelding last January and was out riding and hauling in it a lot. There wasn't a day I didn't have to bundle up just the same as this year. Came in chilled to the bone plenty of days. I don't think you missed anything. Maybe someone was pulling your leg to get you to stay this year. And it worked!!!

I have a hard time with winter. So any sun is definitely appreciated, though never enough. I'm taking my multi-vitamin (that has 200% the daily requirement of Vit. D in it) plus my additional B, but this time of year it seems no matter what I do the winter starts to seem really long and the light at the end of the tunnel gets real hard to see. I don't think my settling down in this area was a good choice on my part. Hindsight...

Hello everyone! I hope all is well with each of you.

I started hatching again about a month ago and now have some cute little silkie and sizzle babies running around. My bator is stocked with polish, more silkies, and welsummer eggs but I am looking for other breeds. Is there anyone out there not hatching that would like to sell their fertile eggs? If so please pm me what breeds you have any how much per dozen. I have found that eggs that don't have to be shipped very far hatch better.

I am getting ready for the spring and would like to have many different breeds to offer the public. I sold of much of my adult flocks last year and only kept the best birds out of a few select breeds. Considering the cost of feed these days, I had to slim down.

I am also looking for some TRUE Rhode island whites and Rhode island reds if anyone has, or knows of someone who has them. Eggs, chicks, or adult birds will work out just fine.

We were here in 2009 winter...that was rough..more so because it was a cold spring and summer too! We moved to north Mi. in 2003 from FLORIDA! Yes...it is true. I'm a native who moved in 72 for a teaching job in Florida and vowed to come back when I retired and had my husband promise we would. He has a really tough time in winters and plus...I grew up downstate near Charlotte, Mi. and hadn't a clue I was moving to the snowbelt of Michigan.

I do think our friends and neighobrs make up warm weather stories whenever we go south during the winter. Winter entertainment I guess!!

Last winter was a fairly warm winter. This winter was about average. From and 06/07, 07/08, 08/09 were all long very cold winters. I recall subzero temps into March and snow days in April.

Do the people on the FL thread talk about those crazy Michiganiacs and their winters?

I can tell you our Florida friends DO think we are crazy for moving NORTH after retiring! My husband is not from Michigan and he does enjoy it here for 3 seasons...just not winter. He is puzzled by the love of ice fishing....he is a fisherman but after trying ice fishing twice....has vowed never again.

bunnies........ their eyes opened up yesterday... they're hopping all over today. Need to figure out a way to help get them back in the box though... the wall is too high.
