She's doing fine. It's hard to believe how much dander can come from one chicken. I sure will be glad when we can get her outside, but probably not as glad as Hope will be. I've got to do some reading up on the size of andalusians, she seems awfully small. She sure is starting to get quite pretty. You would think that with all the handling she has had she would be quite tame, but it seems to be just the opposite. I got bit 6 times just changing her water. She doesn't peck she bites. May have to use a cattle prod just to clean her cage.

I've posted a couple of threads, but I'll ask on here too.....

does ANYONE have Mille Fleur D'Uccles? I'm just looking for 1 little pullet...that's it! You'd think I was searching for Bigfoot or something!

At one time I wanted Blue Andalusians...but then I read that they "avoid human contact". Guess that's right, huh?

Sam, I know Heidi has a couple, and I do think they're smaller than a LF, but not as small as a bantie. I don't recall if hers are biters or not....that's kinda funny, actually....

Glad she's doing well! Please tell Hope & mom I said hello!

(When I went to pick up my most awesome coop, Hope helped right alongside Sam in loading it up onto the trailer. And mom came out on the deck and yelled to me, "Hey, chicken lady!" and waved. SUPER nice folks that I was fortunate to meet!!)

Finding birds can sometimes be a chore. I'm looking for a couple of gold lakenvelder pullets myself. The welsummers have started to lay again. As soon as it is warmer and they are laying with more regularity I'll bring you some eggs.

Sam, I'd had Golden Lakenvelders on my want list, too; however, I found out they're pretty skittish, lay only medium eggs, and don't lay all that well. I still may get a pullet or two some day, just for their prettiness, though!

I am so looking forward to meeting you, Opa. Wish I could help you out on the Lakenvelders. I've read that the bantam ones are harder to find, so I almost ordered some from John Blehm. He's still got them available this spring, but I figured I better stop at 10 bantam lavender ameraucanas. There's always next year. I've always liked the Lakenvelders...those gold and black feathers are just eye catching. Good luck!

sort of what I was thinking too. I've got more eggs than I can use so I think a couple just for looks might be nice. I'm thinking about building another coop and run just for smaller pretty birds and bantams.

Afternoon all

I showed my new coop drawing and the picture to Judy for her approval. She gave her nod.

Called Mom and Pop lumberyard for materials. Think I can build it in sections inside my shop, then move outside to assemble those sections together. Haven't decided on a cement floor or a wood one....thoughts?

I am of the opinion the wood will rot over the long run, where concrete is permanent.

Kewl, Steve!

Only problem with concrete floors is that you have to have way more ventilation than you think you do. If you don't, you'll end up with your bedding becoming damp, because the concrete pulls it up out of the soil. To combat this, some folks lay plywood right over the top of the concrete, or rubber mats.

My barn pen is on concrete and I don't have any issues, because there's plenty (more than I'd like!) ventilation. It's a WHOLE lot easier to clean concrete than it is to clean dirt, though, and wood hold moisture in the summertime, and can be difficult to disinfect. It also harbors mites if you ever have them...those suckers can crawl into the tiniest of spaces in wood!
