Anyway, out of the goslings I got from you last year I was pretty sure I had two males and one female. Last weekend we gutted and cleaned all the hen houses and nests. I had found a nest of 6 goose eggs, which once I cleaned the straw I remade into a nice clean nest and covered like she had. Well, yesterday I found the blue goose, which I thought was a male, setting on the nest. My questions was, do male's ever set? I swear I was sure I only had one female, of course I'd be super happy if I have two. The one gander I'm sure on is so super protective and ferocious right now! I stopped gathering the original goose eggs because he attacked me too many times. Stinker!

I think some males will occasionally set on eggs but not consistently like the females. So just keep an eye on them and see how sets consistently. On the other hand, some females are more broody than others, so than you are back to square one! That is why I switched to pilgrims! LOL

One last thing on the Michigan foods thread—try Vernors hot some time on a cold day. Yum! Would probably taste pretty good if you are not feeling well, too!

I hope Chickenstock gets here before I completely fill up the house and garage with chicks!

Oh SNAP! That would have been! Do you think it's a bad idea to take away the goslings once (and if) they hatch? I'm contemplating only because the one gander is really mean right now. The chickens don't even want to come out of their hen house.

shorter version.. haha... I have a chicken that is between the coop and a bale of hay... kindof stuck in that close space.. evidently she has been there awhile... I think she is sitting on an egg... question
how long does it take for a chicken to hatch an egg. Will she sit on it even though it will not hatch... and should I disturb her? It maybe a few weeks in... and I do not know if she is getting enough water or food.. I did put food up to her but she did not take it... so what gives.>>> I am a newbie at this.. please help!!

That depends on why, if you want them to bond with you, then yes. If you are worried he will hurt them, don't worry, he will be great with them and protect them like crazy! The good news is, he will drop this protective act once breeding season is over, or after the goslings are bigger, if you have some and allow them to raise them.

If she does hatch them out I really can't keep them. I say that but.... I'll be way over my limit if I do. I have 6 chicks coming from Wynette next month and that really should be it for me. So I was thinking I might want to get them to bond with people and then find them appropriate homes. That's all.
