I am super excited today. We just got our very first egg! What an awesome surprise to find this morning. Then to my amazement, there was another matching egg this afternoon in the same nesting box. I didn't know how really exciting this event was going to be. Our first egg from our first chickens. I am saving them to eat tonight with my husband when he gets home from work. They are perfect small eggs. No deformities, no blood, just perfection!

Btw, I came home sick!! I have mono and have apparently had it before in the past. I feel so groggy and slow and all I've been wanting to eat this week is spaghetti :-/

Well, I've got a broody goose. That poor girl has been going broody every day until I go steal back all the eggs she's stolen for her nest and bring them inside. And then she sits for a little while longer and sulks off until the next day when there are more eggs to steal. So, I had enough good goose eggs in the house for a nice big clutch so today when she laid her egg and stole chicken eggs out of the other nest to go broody on I went out and stuck 12 goose eggs under her and removed the chicken eggs. She was hissing up a storm when I came in and when I removed the chicken eggs but when I started putting goose eggs under her she shut right up and was quite cooperative about the whole ordeal. Maybe they're smarter than they look.

I'll give the blue female a clutch here in a couple weeks in her nest and then give the hens in the buff pen two or three clutches a couple weeks after that and, with any luck, we should be set on geese this year. The turkeys are laying like clockwork so next week we'll fire up the bator for them, too. Happy Spring, ya'll!

I can't believe it's so hard to find what I'm looking for, yet when I'm not looking for it it's there.

2 female call ducks and 3-6 month old hens....

Brrr it's colder in this house than it is outside. It's an all brick house so it holds the cold really well, even in the summer.

My daughter is gone for the weekend so Aric and I get peace and time together. I'm still pretty sick but I'm trying to do more so my muscles don't go bad.
