You're in luck. Jen has one lonely young Sussex lady herself...

Jen, I'm happy to know about the SS at chickenstock - in the meantime I'll have to avert my eyes from my singleton and concentrate on the matched breeds.

Does anyone else have a mixed flock that, while fully integrated, still has the breeds hang out together or are my chickens also suffering from OCD?

H.Hen, congratulations on your little ones - did you hatch them

or did you succumb to an outside source?

Pretty good turnout at the swap today

Sooooo here's a question. I stuck my chicks outside today in one of my chicken tractors with shelter and etc. 7 of them are a little over 2 months old and 3 of them are over a month old...you think they'll be ok? I figured they would huddle up together if they get cold tonight. They were having a blast running around!!

Oh...and there's some peeping happening in the bator!

My rainbow flock of different breeds definitely demonstrates the adage "birds of a feather". Each bird seems to prefer hanging with their own breed.

Jen they have a light, yes?

As long as they have a heat source and you make sure they're smart enough to use the shelter when needed, I would say they should be fine.

Nope, no heat light out there....just body heat from the 10 of them together.

I might be able to rig up a heat light in there....guess it's going to be survival of the fittest because I don't want to move them back into the basement

Ok...went out and threw a heat light in there and made it a little more enclosed on one side. Now I'll wait until right around dark and make sure they go in.

Or you could just ignore me and my inability to read. Just went back and looked again. I read it as 2 weeks old the first time. At 2 months they should be just fine without heat.

Sorry. I opened to reply before this one. I'm sure the light won't hurt them any, but if you don't want it out there, you could shut it off and see how they do. I misread their ages.
