Look out Michiganders, the enabler strikes again!

Soldans in Charlotte has their chicks in, evidently they arrived Tuesday! I thought they weren't coming until mid April like TSC. Evidently not, or maybe they heard Family Farm & Home in Mason already had their chicks and wanted to compete. Who knows, but they were there.

Fortunately, the enabler was able to resist.

Mainly because I have a brooder with 2 week old standard chicks, a brooder with 2 weeks old bantams and another with my new bunch that hatched 3 days ago. Oh and my geese are arriving this week! LOL

I'm just planning on getting lots of ugly chickens that I won't notice when Hal sneaks one out for eating until he hands me one to pluck. (Is there such a thing as an ugly chicken?)

But it now looks like I'm mainly going for meat chickens anway as he finally had a chicken egg for dinner yesterday (deviled, they were DELISH!) and it made him ill so he seems to be allergic to all eggs *sigh*. I'll be buying fewer egg layers consequently and those he won't be allowed to eat.

Hey Swamp,

Allergic to eggs! Drag! My middle son, age 9, loves eggs but won't eat ours because "they taste different" so I buy him regular old store bought white eggs. He's my quirky eater. We have so many breeds that we get a rainbow of different shades of brown and green. Whenever we give some away people are amazed by the colors! They appreciate the whole "farm fresh" thing.

Me too!

I just came from soldans and I resisted temptation to get a few Rhode Island reds I really want along with some barred rocks....

As far as i could tell there was about 6-8 isa Browns 2-3 RIR's 20 or so Aracaunas some bantams and 3 cute little ducks.

Then went on over to TSC and bought another bag of chick feed for the ones I already have. I asked the store manager (Sandy) if they would be getting some BR or RIR's....she wasn't sure which ones but would be one or the other.

So.....I'll wait.

Good job Steve, that takes willpower!!

Problem with second (or third or ....) batches is they must have their own brooder as they are so much smaller than the older birds. Of course, it is neat to see them all at different stages too!

Hey all,

Perhaps we should start a Michigan chapter of "Chickens Anonymous" for all of us addicts! I thought I was obsessed but now that I found this site I know I'm not alone. What is it about baby chicks, eh?

Hey all,

Check this out. I was just looking at the eggs on eggbid.com. Someone is selling Mille Fleur/Cochin eggs. There is a pic posted. Looks like a Cochin with Mille markings. Very pretty bird. I have too many of my own eggs in the bator now. Maybe next year...
