It was a bit sunny here today for me in the UP. I fetched my game camera off from where I'd put it on the property a few months ago. Got some pictures of deer, which is just what I wanted. I was sure I knew the route they took from the tracks and scat, and now I have the footage! I may be new to living in the UP, not being an official resident yet, but I won't be buckless this coming hunting season if all goes right!

My chicken coop is also in place, too. Won't be building a run yet since the babes aren't even out of the eggs yet!

Hi there all! just wanted to say thanks to all of you who helped me get stated. I had a lot of questions

Bridgetteanne, Chickenstock would be a good source for birds. If you add your location perhaps someone close to you would be able to help you sooner.

Denise...(Freebie) Thanks....I'm glad you liked my page....I've raised several breeds of livestock these 50 plus years...and have finally settled to just my Pyncheons and Scottish Blackface Sheep....and a few Silkies.....and tons of Dahlias. I do alot of artwork for breeders... Some of my poultry artwork is in the current ABA Standard.... it's one of my hobbies. Happy Easter!!!!!

Here's some easter eggs that DD and I colored tonight. For some reason 2 of our Black Stars lay white eggs, so we had some of those to color in addition to various shades of light brown from the cochins and other hybrids.

Hello Bridgetteanne!

You said you are looking for "older" hens? Not sure how old you mean, but I have 3 ISA Brown pullets that are 7 weeks old right now. I'm looking to rehome/sell them to a good home. I will be going to Chickenstock in June (they will be 16 weeks by then) and if you are going as well and are interested in them, I'll bring them with me. You probably can find some closer to you and get them sooner than June, but thought I'd offer. Let me know if you're interested.
Oh, and

Michiganwrangler...very pretty Easter eggs!! I used to love hunting Easter eggs on our farm growing up! I was SURE there really was a Easter bunny because the eggs we found would be in straw nests out in the horsebarn, the "loafing cow area", the calf barn...we really had to hunt. I was always amazed that my dad usually knew what kind of areas the bunny laid them!

The eggs were a golden/speckled color unlike the rest of my friends eggs. I found out later that mom boiled them with onion skins...makes a very rich color. Such fun.
Stacykins....your property sounds great...we have 20 acres also here and my DH plants food plots in some of the open areas for the deer. I'm not a hunter but enjoy eating the venison!
Brigette...if you don't want to wait until Chickenstock....a lot of time you find full grown chickens on Craigs list and Michigan farm classifieds.

We have so much sand in our soil that flooding isn't an issue for us here....however , I imagine you all have puddles everywhere due to all the rain. I know we need rain but I hope we get a few days inbetween to let us get outside and do the projects we are all itching to get at!

Morning is starting off well. The sun is breaking through the clouds and we're 20 degrees warmer than water toting weather. A few more days of this kind of weather and folks will start thinking that spring is here.

Given the number of folks that have expressed a desire for some of my bantams I think I will fire up one of the incubators and see what happens. I want to add a few more to my folk and hopefully I won't have any difficulty getting rid of the rest.

I've got to take Granny to DTW this afternoon. She is heading to southwest Missouri for 3 weeks to visit with my oldest and youngest sons. I should be an enjoyable trip for her but I am a little concerned about her flying since it isn't a direct flight. The last time I flew resulted in lots of hassle and a 10 hour layover in Chicago. While she is flying from Detroit to Chicago to Springfield, I'm wondering how the closing of St Louis' airport, because of last night's tornado, is going to affect other flights.
