Nice set up Chickmate! Hopefully the rain will just fall over my pond and not yours!

Vicki, I missed your post earlier, sorry to hear your haveing problems, I sent you a pm.

Also, I'm going to add raffle items to the chickenstock want/buy/sell thread (link in my sig below)- so if anyone is interested in donating an item for the raffle please PM me (it's easier than sorting through the thread for new stuff) Thanks! We can keep it a surpise if you want... just thought it may peak more interest!

Thanks on both accounts Opa. My mom suggested she might be a Catalana, just based on the pictures she found online. I hope not, if that is a warm climate bird... I'll have to try to get you a bigger better picture to check out when I am home from work later.

I took a minute to look at some buff columbian wyandottes. I am pretty sure that is probably what it is. Good eye Opa. I'll still try to get some better pictures up later, but I think my mystery is probably solved. Thanks again.

Thanks. My friend who has a chicken farm in Fife Lake used to be a general contractor/carpenter. He built our house and an addition later before he moved to Fife Lake. I learned a lot from him during the two construction projects.

Come to find out...we don't know him but think he doesn't have chickens anymore...at least that is what we heard.

OK, I'll call him tonight to fins out. He also has cattle.

No, I do have a 1/4 acre pond that is just feet away from the coop and run. My property is low and the water table is very high here in Algonac, so it doesn't take much rain to flood everything. I don't usually dry up until the middle of July. LOTS of mosquitos! I am almost all sand here as well but with the high water table it has no where to go. I had three loads of dirt and two loads of sand brought in to build the coop and run on because it was all swamp, so it does set up a little higher.

Except for during a "rainy season" you are lucky to have a pond! I've wanted one since we moved here in 2003..but we have no clay and to put a liner down on a pond the size I'd like (your size) would cost too much. Would be perfect for all the wildlife around here. I should add that about 1/2 mile from our place is a natural pond..a large one with beaver and ducks.
