So who gets to clean up the headless coon trio? LOL That's a good dog though! I am not sure my dogs would attack a racoon. They probably think it's a funny looking dog.

One of my dogs just loves to roll in anything gross. When I had my mute swans he never passed up a pile to roll in. Have you ever seen swan poop? It's huge and it has the most foul odor! For such beautiful birds, what comes out the other end is pretty disgusting. I have a dog door so they pretty much come and go as they please. One night I was really into a good movie when Jimmy jumped up on my lap and settled in. I don't know why, but I didn't smell it until I had smeared it all over my sweatshirt and even on my face. Needless to say, he flew off my lap pretty quick and I missed the end of the movie because we were both in the shower! But, like you said Opa, gotta love 'em.

One of the nicest things about dogs is that they are not cats.

Our dog is half french brittany and half beagle. She is very well behaved in every way EXCEPT rolling in gross stuff and eating poop! She LOVES both!
On another topic...I just finished showering after demiting/lousing the chicken coop and chickens I just got last week. I cleaned out the coop/nest boxes and sprayed with pyrethium. (easy part)
Then I did what I read about in regards to Sevin...I put the sevin in a bag...grabbed each chicken/roo...one at a time..stuck them in the bag except for the head and shook the dust around them. I released them after the dusting into the clean coop. IT WAS A MESS. I used a mask but the powder got in my eyes..on my lips...covered my clothes. Not very healthy for ME! Let me just say it is the LAST time I do it that way with Sevin. I will fork over the$100 plus and buy the Invectin (spelled wrong) and put it on them as they are on the roost. I sprayed the run area...got the sand box inplace with sand mixed with diamateous earth. If the chickens and I make it through the night...I will say "mission accomplished">Not fun:(

Thanks for the update on that task Fife. I was wondering how messy it would be. I used Sevin to treat some of my domestic zebra finches, but I used a make-up brush dipped in the powder and then dusted them with that. Much easier on tiny little birds than on chickens. The guy I bought my BCMs from said he proactively treats his birds for lice/mites on a regular basis by putting Ivermec in their water?? Has anyone treated that way before? I thought you had to put it on their skin.

Chickmate, I love your chicken coop. I have an opportunity to build my dream coop and I have no idea where to start. I'm thinking I may even hire someone, not that my hubby isn't full capable, but..... well it wouldn't look like yours! Did you have a plan?

Fife, you are making me nervous about dusting my birds!! UGH. I know I have to do it soon because some of my hens are starting to look ragged.

On a happy note: I have pictures!!
