! The only downside was we drove to newaygo and no one was there. We went in the store and the first monday of each month is in MUSKEGON. So, then we drove to muskegon and got there at 9-10 am when it started at 8.

Do you mind me asking where you got them? I live near lansing and have been looking everywhere for some hens and a friendly roo. We had to get rid of the Showgirl roo because he was way mean and nailed my daughter right in the face.

Never have I had such a mean roo. Hannah has a beak shaped scratch on her upper lip where he grabbed her.

Cricket, do you have any silkie eggs I could buy for hatching? Or will anyone have chicks or started birds at chickenstock?

Just came in from candling my eggs and I don't think I'm a happy camper. I've never had a hatch where both the temperature and the humidity have stayed more constant than this one. However, the eggs have been in the incubator for 10 days and some of the eggs don't appear to have much of anything, most have decent air cells but some are on the bottom rather than the top. The eggs are either white shelled or very pale brown so seeing into the egg isn't a problem but I'm not seeing the veining I should. As I was checking them I realized that each time I've looked into the incubator the eggs have been tilted away from me. I think the turner isn't working. I'm going to go back out after while and check to see if they are still tilting the same direction. I may have wasted 39 bantam eggs.

I have 2 of my Isa Browns sold WOOHOO this has been a great day! Now to sell 3 more! Anyone interested? Not a year yet, $8 ea.

Jen, I have 4 older silkies, I believe a set in black and a set in yellow. I was going to bring a set to chickenstock to hopefully trade for something else.......

Sorry to hear that Opa. Hope it gets worked out for you!
When my incubator's temp went up so high because my daughter didn't keep the door closed while we were gone, I was so upset! It's so frustrating! I'm glad these two batches seem to be working out beautifully!

Jen - I do not have any silkie eggs for hatching, sorry :-/. My silkies seem to never want to lay! I believe the entire year I've had them they've MAYBE laid three eggs all together for me. I gave a bunch of them away to my sister this past weekend and only have two left because DH demanded that we keep them as pets for the kids. I was just tired of them pooping all over the nesting boxes and never contributing.

So I'm thinking about incubating some maran eggs and bringing them to chickenstock to sell, I'm not totally sure yet. I certainly don't need anymore chicks at the moment. The hatch rate last time was just so good that I thought I'd try that again. I'm not really sure how easy it'd be for me to get rid of them though.

Raaandy is doing well, it seems like he's made friends with the sheep. He stays in their pen with them during the day and I take him out when I'm outside so he can follow me around. I am a bit worried about him though because at his original owners he was drinking actual goats milk, but since I don't have goats milk readily available, I have to settle for milk replacer. He drank a full bottle of it this afternoon but barely drank half of it this evening. I'm just hoping he was still really full from the last feeding and he's not having any issues. The guy I bought him from says that when he's running low, he mixes the goats milk with half and half vitamin D, maybe I'll try that tomorrow. It's going to be sad when he's a full grown, 100+ lb, goat someday and not that cute little nugget that followed me capriciously around the farm
