I love the goat! beautiful!!! We picked up a 2yr old pair (hen and roo) Wyandotts and they are proving to be an awnry little pair. grr. They managed to peck the backs and tails of each and every one of my broilers. They didnt touch any of our other hens or pullets. Some of my bantys seem to have decided to foster the pullets and were all snuggled up. My hubby is out in the henhouse still, cleaning up blood and fencing off the youngins...and trying to figure out a way to let my bantams in with the pullets and broilers without letting the other hens in. may be a long night. Kinda looks funny in there right now with ten purple/blue broilers.

any tips on taming the wyandotts? this pair has been together for 2yrs and they are very attached to each other so I dont want to get rid of the roo, they arent very friendly either so I am wondering how handled they really were, I think the old owner was lieing to me about how he cared for them. grrr

WOW on the mushrooms! We went all over State land on Saturday... only found 8! I am hoping they pop up this week. Spent the rest of the weekend tilling and prepping our garden. It is so hard to wait till planting time!

SOOO cute! Goats are my faves, I showed them for about 8 years growing up! I was going to get one but decided on a pot belly pig instead. My neighbor offered some of his land behind us to use for animals, but as sweet as he is, his wife is

so I don't think I'll do that....just yet lol.

Kim - I'd LOVE one of those babies....but I'd be in trouble if I took one. Today Aric and I were just sitting and watching the animals because I was too sick to do anything else all day. Penguin was standing at the pond (like he does all day every day lol) facing us and we noticed how HUGE he's gotten! One of these days I'll have to take a video of him when I feed snacks. He's quite the character!

So, despite the chick dying and Mother's Day being one of my most hated days of the year, and being sick, it was actually a pretty good day. The weather was nice which was a huge bonus. My daughter spent the day with my niece and her kids who just moved here to town so I did a little reading, finished writing a song and enjoyed the company of all my ducks wandering around me in the field. THAT is a great day for me!

I hope everyone else had a great day too!

If anyone knows of someone that wants 1-3 ten month old BR roosters please, PLEASE let me know. I have an ad in CL and I'm giving it a week or something else will be done with them.

By the way,

Welcome to BYC and the Michigan thread, hillbillycitygirl! So glad to have you with us! Sounds like your farm is going to be wonderful. I'll bet pretty much everything you're looking for can be found with someone at BYC. Great people here, always willing to help if they can. RIRJen has rabbits, not sure if it's the kind you're looking for, but that's a good place to start!

fifelake - I am so envious of your morels! I'm sure my woods are probably full of them, but it's so darn wet back there I just haven't even tried looking. Congratulations on a great shroom hunt! By the way, what the heck is a looper? Chickmate: Michiganders in the U.P = Yoopers. Michiganders in the North Lower Michigan=LOOPERS! Sometimes yoopers call us "trolls"...live below the bridge..

Keyt - I'm so sorry about your little one. I wish I had a chick to give you to keep your banty company. I know what you mean about getting really down at certain times. For me it's Christmas.

But it's not Christmas now, so I'm good!

I wish I knew! We have a pair of 7 month old Cubalayas that are downright feral. They are supposed to be a good natured breed, but these two are not. They panic and throw themselves at the fence if we just as much look at them!

Cricket- I love the goat! We are working on fencing this summer so we can get two goats for the kids. They want to do 4-H in the worst way.

Jen- Are those English Lops? Beautiful ears. When we were looking for rabbits a ways back, we couldn't find any English lops.

. We settled with the Holland, but I really wanted those loooong ears. Do you have any trouble with them in the winter with frostbite?

Mom2- Muskovies? Hmmmm. If we make it to Chickenstock, I might steal a couple!? I think we have a family commitment, so probably won't be there, but ducklings are my weak spot. I enjoyed the sun yesterday for a bit in the hammock with our two baby Indian Runners. So much better than chickens, IMHO.

Hillbillycitygirl!

I sure was a nice weekend - even today is going to be nice so I braved it and rode my bike in to work.. boy was it chilly!!

Congrats on the new goat Cricket!

And the new silkies Babigyrl.

One of my rabbits kindled Sunday so we have another litter of bunnies, and another ready to kindle any day now.

So.. anyone with ducks.. can you tell me if a male pekin and female runner would breed? Cause thats what I got, and I'm concerned for the runner. She seems so tiny compared to the pekin, but they are bonded to eachother and can't stand to be apart. If I got more ducks of each breed, would they pair up with their own kind?

I don't think it would take much to encourage ducks to "pair up." They are opportunistic! I have a runner/pekin cross, but he came from a male runner and a female pekin. Drakes can be rough though- poor little girl. Maybe separate them where he can see her but not get to her, with poultry wire perhaps- during the spring season? That might be more trouble than it's worth though. Maybe you need a lovely, fat pekin duck to divert his romantic intentions!

Howdy, the lady I got my silkie hens from also has chicks available. She lives in Grant. PM me if you are interested and I will pass along her contact info. I hope everyone is having a good day!
