Ive heard that one. Can't say I ever thought it was ture.
Being in the mid-50s Im just happen to be going thru that next wonderful phase of womanhood...it's starts with an M.
I detest heat, but it's even worse nowadays.

I've got two big willer trees in the back yard and most everybody is under them in the heat. I swear it is 10 degrees cooler under those things. Big Goose Lake and Little goose Lake (kiddie pools)provide plenty of water. I should freeze some big pop bottles and used them as ice cubes for the lakes.
I glow but Chickflick sweat likes shes gots a fountain coming out of her head

I have a crazy 8 ft tall brick arch on my property. It might be neat if it wasn't falling apart and located about a foot from my privacy fence. The chickens, however, really like it. They like to hang out between the arch and the fence because it is shaded all day long. They have little holes dug in the, what it now dirt, and lay in those against the cool ground to keep cool.

I had my daughter go out and mist them with the hose this afternoon. Even with the sprayer on mist mode it freaked them out. She sprayed out the grass around their coop and run where they like to hang out. I changed their water earlier put a shallow kitty litter pan full of water for a wading pool. They drank out of it but I didn't see anyone try to walk in it, though they walk in and on everything else.

I bought a little fan that is used in pet crates to stick in the coop on really hot nights to circulate the air. Their coop is in the shade most of the afternoon so at least it doesn't get all heated up by the sun.

I've never worried about the comfort of a little thing this much since my kids were babies!

That is so awful.

I was lucky. My girls were chatty when I got home however they knocked over their waterer again.

I went out to FFH today to get them a larger waterer. I like to see them knock this one over. Hmmf

So sorry about your doe- that is awful sad. I put some ice cubes in our rabbit hutches today for them to lick, lay on, whatever they might do with them. I don't know if it helped at all, but it made me feel better! Our chickens, as I've mentioned before, roam everywhere and have found some good places to loll around in during the heat (hubby shut them out of the garage today though). But, my ducks just sit there and pant. Poor dumb things. One would think a dip in the pool would be better than that. I didn't have the heart to lock them up in the duck house in this heat, so I popped them both in a dog crate on the back porch. Hopefully they'll be okay there.

Hey, you're just jealous that I glow more than you ! As I planted my garden, I was able to water them and didn't even have to use a hose!

There is some good that comes out of all that glowing.

I tried a little something different today. I have 6 eight week olds and 6 five week olds in my smaller breeder/brooder area of the coop. They have no acess outside yet but I do have a fan going and windows and doors open. They were still hot so I took some vac sealed bags of zuchinni from the freezer and placed them in the coop. After a bit I noticed that the chicks were laying on and around the frozen squash. I can feed it to the chickens later. A great way to make use of the squash no one else wants to eat. I also took a gallon sized water jug that was frozen and put it in the small pen with my eight week old cockerals and they seemed to like it.
