Not a moose, a Mousse, as in Chocolate Mousse, hahahahaah thats too funny. He's a chocolate Lab. As big as a moose tho, and strong.

Ok, that makes some sense. Guess after gritty's cow thing a moose in the coop sounded possiable.

An hour and a half to come up with the money? That brings back horrible memories... last year our puppy filled his belly with something poisonous. We had to take him to an emergency vet in the middle of the night. It was SO stressful. We just don't have that kind of money (I suspect a lot of folks don't), and had to choose between giving our dog up (who we had just gotten, to replace an old dog we lost. We have kids, mind you), and going into deep debt. It was hard. If it weren't for the kids, we would have given the dog up, as terrible as that sounds. In the end, it took us a year to pay off the bills for his care. So, a dog we paid $50 for ended up costing thousands! Go figure.

Good morning! I am so glad to have the heat gone. If I liked 90 degree weather I wouldn't live in northern Michigan. I am wondering where those of you who use food grade DE are getting it? I bought my first batch on line, but don't want to have to pay shipping. I checked with TSC and they suggested a pool supply company, but I don't believe that would be food grade. Any suggestions? Thanks and enjoy the weekend even though it's not sunny and 70- maybe tomorrow.

I would check the local feed stores. The one here in Howell carrys it in bulk and you buy and quantity you want. If you are unable to locate any and are planning on attending Chickenstock I could pick some up for you.

I got mine from the Family Farm and home store. A big 50 lb bag of it. If they don't have it maybe they will order it for you. The folks at TSC had no clue what I was talking about when I asked them. The stuff at the pool supply co would not be food grade.

I like the 90 degree weather but I like my DH more which is why I am here and not still in Georgia

Yeah an hour and a half- all the while I had a tourniquet on the dogs leg to stop him from bleeding out.
Sad thing is, most people dont have the money to cover emergency surgeries- and the humane option at that point, is euthanasia. I don't make the rules- if I did, we would be a non-profit hospital going bankrupt because I would give everyone credit. The doctors call me a bleeding heart- with a heart as soft as quicksand.

Our rules are made in California, where our corporate office is located. Its easy to say 'no payment plans' when you are in an office 3000 miles away. I understand completely the no money thing. My dog was my life-line and my best friend. I was a single mom with three little kids and someone poured antifreeze over our back fence. I literally had one hour to find 897 dollars before the damage to her kidneys would be permanent. Thankfully I had a friend with a credit card who trusted me and would let me make her measly payments until it was paid off. Or else I would have lost my best friend at a time I needed her most. I also had a cat who had been hit by a car later that year and broke her leg. I had to let her go, have her put to sleep, because I couldnt afford the surgery to fix her. I didnt even have the money for that, and the vet was kind enough to do it at no charge.

hickchick55- the only place I could find food-grade DE was at ACE hardware. It was ten dollars for a small bag. I was so excited to actually find it that I bought two. I hope they stock it again soon.

Saddina, I'll take you up on that cup of coffee.

Jackpot! Made a few phone calls and found it already. Another reason why I love this site. I would like to come to Chickenstock and meet all of you, but it is a pretty far drive for a car with 200,000 miles. Thanks so much.
