An hour and a half to come up with the money? That brings back horrible memories... last year our puppy filled his belly with something poisonous. We had to take him to an emergency vet in the middle of the night. It was SO stressful. We just don't have that kind of money (I suspect a lot of folks don't), and had to choose between giving our dog up (who we had just gotten, to replace an old dog we lost. We have kids, mind you), and going into deep debt. It was hard. If it weren't for the kids, we would have given the dog up, as terrible as that sounds. In the end, it took us a year to pay off the bills for his care. So, a dog we paid $50 for ended up costing thousands! Go figure.
Been there and done that. $450 and a 2-3 hours wait at an all night restaurant and we lost our Rat Terrier anyways. They did try aggresive care and she was just too far gone.
Had another, 4 yr old Toy Rat Terrier, lens problem in her eye. $3000 surgery in Williamston MI and tons of drugs afterward and she never did regain vision in the eye, less than a yr later she went out in the road and got hit. We wouldn't have put so much into her eye but she was young and we figger'd it was worth her being able to see.
My husband won't "buy" dogs any longer cuz of that. He says there are so many nice good animals that just need homes, he will go to the pound and resuce as old one now before he buys a pup.
I am not against vets at all, and those all night, 24 hour emergency places probably save many, but our luck has been bad. My Pastor too, recently spent $400 trying to save a 14 yr old chihuahua mix, they should have just advised her to put the dog to sleep, she had a collapsed trach and couldn't breath. She was devastated, that little dog had been born into har hand and with her everyday of her life. Bella, God Bless her little soul!
Thanks for the info, Opa. It looks like I'll go out next week. Not enough time to go today.
Behind schedule today due to cleaning up after my old dog. All of this talk about sick dogs must be contagious. My 11 year old Samoyed had an accident in the house. I hope he's not losing control.
Been thinkin' about having a word I used changed to darn. I thought that what folks used to do to mend a holey sock. So I guess it could have read that God would sew me up for eternity with a bunch of cockerels.
1mf, if karma took Earl's winning lotto ticket for past transgressions, do be cursed with lots of roosters must have been something really bad.
