Over three hours of work and I've edged and tilled one side of the chicken run, transpanted grass to the front of my house, and dug up composit and scrap concrete that the builders left in our yard. No wonder we couldn't grow grass there.

While I was digging out the new garden bed, the chickens crowded around, watching me intently. We have lots of grubs so I played "fetch the grub" with the chickens. Watching them all make a mad dash for the grub was hilarious. Then they would all huddle back to where I was, all huddled up watching me sift through the dirt for more grubs. Highlight of my day.

:: waves :: Welcome! I wish I could free range them. It would be crazy fun to play "fetch" in the backyard. Ah well, just as much fun in the run i suppose.

Went to a small wedding for a friend today, came home with a small bottle of bubbles. I figured I would see how chickens reacted to the bubbles.
Turns out my chickens are terrified of them.

They were interested in them when they were far away, but as soon as the little floating glycerine and soap sphere got near them, they panicked and ran like a cat was after them.

Thank you all for such a warm Mchigan welcome

New to the chicken world but always wanted chicks and honey bees. The bees are next. I am worried though because i love ALL my little chickies and i'm worried i have lots of cockerels and will not want to part with them unless they are really nasty.

I thought about having bees.....however I think it would push my neighbors too far. I have already bribed them with free (future) eggs. I am not sure how they would take me asking them if it's ok if I have bee's in my mini orchard. They don't seem to be big honey consumers as i am. One day I will have my own little hobby farm far and I won't have to worry about pesky neighbors. Right now i am just learning for when that day comes.

Beautiful day today. Worked in the flower garden, still have a long ways to go but got a small patch weeded.
