Besides my green swamp ducks- I had a neon pink Sizzle chicken.
I put down red mulch...

and the next day my daughter said, "MOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come look at this CHICKENNNNNNNNNNNN! "

It was neon pink- dyed itself in the mulch...

Those poor birds.

I hate when people seem to have animals for nothing other than novelty.
Ladies with chickens in their purses walking around downtown....half of those girls couldn't tell you the first thing about the poor ladies in their purse.
Gah!

Aric had never seen one of those. I said "Honey, here's the next pet I want!" His reaction was "What? Another poor injured chicken you wanna rescue?" LOL I won't repeat what he said when I told him that's how they're born

hahaha ahh that brings back memories. First my mom would put that stuff down every year and every year our day care/foster care kids would get in it and end up with the dye all over their hands and faces. Then I went and got a white male Poodle who loved to pee in it and roll in it. So one year since it was my responsibility to do her gardening, I bought the plain mulch. She wasn't very happy with me but at least there wasn't as much trouble! lol

So, the duck coop expansion is almost complete. The expansion is done all we (Aric) has to do is turn it around so the chickens have more room and move the fencing. The ducks were loving the extra room in there. Tonight after I chased them off to bed I opened the main door to see how they all looked in there. Just like little kids, they all wanted to be in the new part and the old part only had 2 ducks LOL. Then as I was leaving to go back inside I hear little jackhammers inside haha.

I love repurposed barn wood!

Just popping on for a moment, took the boys surfing today, and got a wee bit pink myself (I can climb in from the boat dock and paddle out. it's half-tushied, but works. Mostly as both boys can swim thru the bay without help now). It's funny how differently people are when i'm not in the chair, on the board it's "hey babe, your sister stick you with the kids" (as in are you babysitting), on land it's "excuse me ma'am...."

it's almost enough to make a girl go buy an ugly mom-swimsuit..

I'll have the boys get down the recipie book and drop it in tomorrow, it's scaled at a mini 1 gal batch, just up the size for a 3 or 5 gal carboy.

re moonshine: sorry nope, boyd may have that recipie, i'm a total feather weight, i drink my wine outta shot glasses.

Another wonderful day has started and it looks like most of the day should be rather pleasant. The forecast is for clouds moving in this afternoon and the possibility of rain this evening. Sounds like a pretty decent forecast. I do hope we get the rain as it is much more effective waterer for my garden than the water hose. I replanted the beets and carrots that hadn't come up very well and put in 200 onion sets so a nice gentle evening rain would be ideal.

The found bird has spent its first week in quarantine and appears to be quite healthy. Evidently it must have been handled quite alot in the past. When I reach into the cage from the top, it immediately squats and doesn't struggle in the least when I pick it up. I still can't decide what sex it is. Like many EEs it's neck hackel is quite prominent. I have several other hens that are feathered the same. If it turns out to be a pullet with its unique coloring it sure would be a great addition to the rainbow flock.

Hurrah, last day of docent tours at Matthaei. A bunch of sixth graders on their last day of school.
Think they will have any attention span at all? Who schedules a field trip on the last day of school?

After that, I meet with my packaging guy for pricing. Stayed tuned.

We need some rain, the kids broke the sprinkler it won't rotate, so now I am just moving it around the veggie garden every few minutes, I used to have drip lines but after a few years they dry rotted, so far only trouble I have had with the veggies is my white pole beans haven't came up, might plant something else there that will vine up the bamboo tee pee, hmmmm, no eggs yet, the freeloaders are getting fatter, buying the fancy siding to put on the coop this weekend and painting it MSU green , my Michigan fan neighbor will love it..lol. every year I paint a huge white S on his front lawn in the middle on the night, then he steals my MSU flag and puts up his Michigan flag, I also painted his large stone budda green and white one year..lol.
Its fun having neighbors like that.
