Well another day has started and the sun will be up in another 90 minutes. Great time of the day to catch up on BYC, answer emails, work the cross word, all before things start get to hectic. The solitude of this time of day is rather nice. At least thats what I keep trying to convince myself of.
Sam- the quiet morning hours are my favorite time of the day-
when the rest of the house is still sleeping and nobody is making a sound.
It's MY time.
Of course, I missed it this morning. Husband is up now- tv is on, and he is going through all of his morning man noises and the parrot is playing with his noisy toys...and I am sulking in my computer chair. Waiting for the cats to realize that I am awake so they can beg for breakfast.

Being up before dawn is kinda nice. I am not normally up this early! Gonna make the best of it and have coffee on the back deck and watch the sun come up. My cat would just not let me sleep, the annoying twit was being excessively needy!
Good morning Michigan!
This morning I had PLANS of sleeping until 7am at the earliest.....the auto door opens at 6:30am and I was really looking forward to a little later sleeping. Too bad the rooster started crowing at 4am...I quickly jumped out of bed to close window so as not to wake DH. Too late. He was awake and did NOT get back to sleep and is threatening to get rid of the roo! I think the problem is caused by him being a light sleeper since going into "atrial fib" and being on a med that says it may cause problems sleeping. Tonight I will put a fan in the room to mask the crows and hopefully that will help. This Friday he will be "electrically converted" and I think that will also help. HOPEFULLY.
Suppose to be a good weather day.....it seems this summer we have to pounce on the "good weather" days and cram in as much as possible......they are out numbered by rainy or windy days.
If any of you are looking for things to do this 4th....Fife Lake has "the best 4th in the North!"
Bake sales, crafts, car show....for a small village we do alright!
Anyone have experience with broodies going crazy?
Our broody silkie has spent the past few days standing in the yard squawking her head off as loud as she can. I have no idea why, she's not hurt or threatened, there's plenty of food and water, the most I can figure is the other chickens leave her sight and she freaks out. She had adopted our BCM chicks but they are now as big as she is and have turned pretty independent, ignoring her almost completely.
We can't have her making all this noise. You can hear it in the house, and without a doubt our neighbors can hear it and don't appreciate a noisy chicken at 6 am.
Is there any way of correcting this behavior or would I be better off sending her to our friend where his neighbors don't mind loud chicken noises?
Will the person who had the large blue orp friendly rooster at chicken stock please contact me asap?! The person who came with my DSIL, has decided she wants him afterall - Please don't send him to freezercamp yet!!!

You might have good luck with the fan. I had to get up at 4:30 a.m. for work for many years, and it was hard to get to sleep early enough. I got a small "white noise" machine and it made all the difference. Now that you have your new door, I hope you will be doing some sleeping in. Hey, I thought Lake City had the "best 4th in the north"
I will be happy to avoid Traverse City the best I can for a few weeks- no Blue Angels this year, so my DH won't make me go to the Cherry Fest!

My Frizzle did this for about a week after I took her eggs away. I think she was just telling off the world, and letting everyone know that she has rejoined the flock. lol.
Good luck with her-
I also had a turken that decided to be a noisy bird, and she never stopped. I had to rehome her.
Coffee and crosswords in the morning is a fine way to start the day. It's gonna be a busy one what with getting ready for school tomorrow.
Still haven't found anyone to watch the critters, so it looks like a back and forth commute to Lapeer for the next 3 days.
Sorry to hear about the lack of critter sitter. It sucks, I cant ever go anywhere like a family trip because of that reason.
I need to pick your brain when you have time.
I have a green pond again.
Im ready to fill the whole thing in.
I need to make the green go away. If I buy plants to float on top, will that help? I cant add anymore of the stuff that Grass Roots sold me- I am doing that too often already. No ducks in my pond.
I need an out-of-the-water filter, and dont know how. They want over $150 to buy one.
My husband wants to add chlorine and pool chemicals- I wont let him. (he would kill my koi and turtle and frog so he better not).
I am ready to give up.
