are the geese babies where looking for lil babies geese

The ones I saw in the barnyard were feathered but some still had fuzz on them. I'm sure there were probably babies there as well. What about Libby, the gosling Mom2emAll is trying to rehome?

something got into our chicken run last night and my golden seabright bantam rooster fought to the death, he is the only one who was injured. He was a spunky feisty little guy and will be missed. I am so thankful I had him though, what a good boy he was. SO sad to have lost him though

I really hope his harem of girls dont stress now that he is gone (he had three girls that always stuck by his side, he was so faithful to them. Man, I am so bummed.

I'll most likely need a more snow-resistant coat for the dead of winter, but since i'm used to things quite warmer, i expect i'll be using a coat a bit more than a native. Since the coat has a full skirt (and i'm having an addition made to the skirt, a pocket for my feet). It does eliminate needing to carry a second coat for the wheelchair, since i can't pick up anything off the floor an attached blanket is ideal.

Luckily my Lab "loves" the chickens.. including the chicks surprisingly. So if any noise in the night is heard.. out the door she goes.. There's a few less coons in the world this year.. Luckily no skunks.. "YET!"... dreading that day.

Skunks is a great subject for me. I happen to be so lucky as to have had my dogs hammered by them 3 times. I have learned the hard way what works. come to find out the money you waste on store bought skunk stuff is just that, a waste. when my Jack Russel took one at point blank to the face she had it in her eyes and in her mouth. she came running to the back door after letting her out clawing at her face. as soon as I seen her do that I knew it wasn't going to be good. I grabbed her and tossed her in the wash tub down stairs. I just so happened to have a gallon of "Fast Orange" hand cleaner right there. so I covered her in the stuff and started scrubbing. I had all the smell out of everything but her mouth & nose. I washed her whole head and it didn't seem to irritate her eyes bad, and I was able to re scrub a couple times over.

my wife went to the store that day and paid like $12 for the store bought skunk scrub. it wasn't near as potent and the didn't seem to do anything more then I had already done. I gave her daily baths for about a week. the only time you could smell the skunk was when she burped...yeck.
if your golden does happen into one try to remember to have some good orange based hand cleaner handy.

Lots of peroxide and baking soda works too. My dog tried to rub off the skunk oil on my walls and carpet. I was Not amused.

Thanks, keyt,

Luckily, these were not the duck they bought with their
own money, otherwise there would be torches and
pitchforks!

But she doesn't like raccoons either.

First ones in over two years lost.....

How late is too late for letting a broody hen hatch out a
clutch? Would mid August be too late?

Won't have a replacement 'roo until the 16th, so it would mid Aug at the earliest for hatching..

Wow. What an emotional picture, brought tears to my eyes. Thanks so much for sharing it.

I can tell you what NOT to do! DON'T PUT SEVIN IN PLASTIC TRASH BAG TO DO THE SHAKE METHOD WITH each INDIVIDUAL chicken.! This is what I read to do and I got half of the Sevin in my FACE and went through lots of torn trash bags. DUH! Use a old pillow case....NOW I know. Keep their head OUT. It was NOT a fun project. I cleaned out the coop (mine was new also...story almost the same as yours) and sprayed with pyrethin, dusted with Sevin the flock...sprayed the enclosed run and put out diatemaceous earth in various self dusting areas and in the nest and in their sandbox. GOOD LUCK.
