It is always fun to introduce the chicks the big out doors and to watch the bigger hens come to investigate. My new wyndottes are nearly 3 months old and the same size as the hens. Two of the isa browns have been lying in the dirt next to their pen to dust bath it is funny how they want to be close to them but I know as soon as they meet they will be whaling on them.

I think that is funny only because I've been there and done that. Although I usually wait until fall before harvesting propolis, just because I'm already disturbing the hives for the honey by removing the supers.

I hope your bees are doing well this year.

reading this sent shivers through me...

I would be in the hospital. I am allergic to bee/wasp stings.

I appreciate all of you bee-keepers, because I love honey (thank you Raz, its wonderful)...but if I had to gather my own, I would never have any. I am the one you see that goes running and dancing through they yard whenever one comes near me.

Good Morning everyone. My kids are gone with my mother in Flint- and I am caring for her animals. I have to work at 7 this morning, so animal care will be done in the dark here. Her dog is very old and refuses to eat for me, refuses to go outside for me, everything. He wont let me pick him up- Im sure I would get bit. I have to negotiate and beg him to go outside. Eventually he will. He will have about fortyfive minutes to decide this a.m. Then, we will try again this afternoon.

Everyone have a great day!

Well I let you sleep at least an hour more than I and now it's time to get up and get your day going before it gets too hot.

Yesterday I went to the Secretary of State to get registration tabs for my boat. It took 1 1/2 hours of standing in line. As it turns out Wednesday mornings are the worst possible time to go. Due to staying opening until 7pm they only have a partial staff until 11am. Also they only have a partial staff after 5pm. I would have handled it on line but the paperwork for the renewal that I had was for tabs that expired this past March. So that meant that I had gone at least 3 years without using the boat, and I think the sad truth is that it has probably been closer to six years. Came home, pulled the boat out and organized everything. I was worried that the motor would give me problems after having sat so long but to my surprize it started on the 3rd pull. Now I'm ready to remedy this no fishing spell I've gone through.

OUCH!! That has got to hurt! To just "endure" their bites calmly is beyond MY comprehension. I'd be screamin like a banshee and running as fast as my stiff knees allowed!
On a positive note...isnt that swollen lip look " in" with women paying big bucks to get that look?

My broody hens eggs are hatching! This is only the second time I have let a hen hatch out chicks...last time I sold mama hen and chicks when they were only a week old. My question for everyone is this...do I keep mama hen and chicks enclosed in their own coop for weeks or can I let them venture out into the run with the other hens and rooster? Will the mama be able to protect them?

Oh Opa,

My family were all Great Lake Fishermen! I soo miss going out watching the sun come up and pulling nets! Good memories hope you catch a boat full, can I come for dinner?

good question. I want to know the answer to that one too. I don't have a rooster but I do see myself letting a girlie hatch some chicks every so often.
