Hi, another newbie, and I too have had chickens before but not for a real long length of time. We are in SW Michigan, will be renting a farmhouse next month with 10 acres, a beautiful chicken coop (that we can't wait to fill, thus why I am already looking and on this forum LOL). We would like to get 6 rocks and 6 reds (and a rooster or two), this is what we had before and seemed perfect for us. But, after looking, reading and now more interested I would like to get a few silkies as well LOL.
We also have 2 horses (that I can't wait to get on my own property), 2 dogs and 2 cats (well sounds like we will inherit a few at this new house too LOL).
If anyone is in my area and raises some of the unique breeds I would love to learn more

. I am also in Hillsdale area 5 days a week as a delivery driver.
Thanks everyone,
Jenn

Camping was very hot and buggy but fun.

If you're still interested in having Bobbi come and join our little flock, let me know when you would like to bring her over. The little chicks are getting close to her size and are starting to transition from peeping to clucking. It's still that weird in between noise, but progress none the less.

That is adorable!

Hello everyone. Lots of new folks here. Welcome!

This may be old hat to you guys who have had chickens for longer than I've been living, but last weekend we actually "processed" three young roosters. That was a first for me! So gross... I thought I would be able to deal with it. Next time, I'll drive them to the real processor in Fowlerville! Also, yesterday I noticed that our old wyandotte was pale and raspy and lethargic. I took note of it, but was leaving. Today, I tracked her down... and gag... poor girl had maggots all over her vent area. Good Lord, I may never eat meat again. I have only been doing so for the last couple of years, but man, after these last few days, I think I'll go veggie again for a while. I have a weak stomach I guess. My hubby made eggs for lunch, and I had to leave the room.

The entire mitten is the Lower Peninsula. The part across the Mackinac Bridge to the north is the Upper Peninsula. That is why everyone who lives 'under the bridge' i.e. south a da bridge are 'trolls'.

Welcome JennKzoo! Wow, I can't believe how many newbies we've had join in the last few weeks! It's wonderful!! Jenn, I have two beautiful roosters, only about 18 weeks old that I would gladly give to you as a "house warming" gift!

Seriously, one of them is an EE and the other is a French Black Copper Marans. They are totally non aggressive to me, my cats and my dogs. I just have too many roosters for the amount of hens I have. I'd be glad to work something out where we could meet or heck, to get them a good home, I'll deliver them to your door! Let me know if you'd be interested.

So only the lp is the mitten? and the up is the rainbow shaped part on top? I just realized i'll be further north than parts of canada. Do people in mi go to canada for a weekend party like we go to mexico here? Somehow I can't picture a canadian senior frogs...
