Directions are not difficult. We have 2 Michigans: the lower and the UP. The lower is anything south of the Mackinaw bridge. Those who live there are Trolls. The ones who live in the UP (Upper Penninsula) are Yoopers and they speak an entirely different language, eh?

I-75 is the main north-south route. Where it gets a little tricky is that you are not "Up North" until you get to West Branch around exit 220 or so. Anything below that is Downstate.

Bay City, Saginaw, Midland, Flint is all said as one word, "baycitymidlandsaginawflint". Not sure what you call the Thumb people, I always called them "flatlanders",

Detroit is it's own region and we try not to discuss it.

West side of the state is really beautiful but it attracts all those folks from Chicago, from the border to Traverse City. They are not so bad unless it's football or hockey season. It's state law to hate Da Bears and the Black Hawks. Other than that, they are okay people.

And one last thing...You know you are from Michigan if you have Canadian coins in your pocket.

PS If you travel due south out of Detroit, the first foriegn country you hit is CANADA!. We go there to see the ballet on the weekends.

Wat.. i thought the LP was the thumb? oh dear lord i'm never going to get directions down am i? At least GPS works in mich.

The entire mitten is the Lower Peninsula. The part across the Mackinac Bridge to the north is the Upper Peninsula. That is why everyone who lives 'under the bridge' i.e. south a da bridge are 'trolls'.

Hey! I resemble that comment!

So only the lp is the mitten? and the up is the rainbow shaped part on top? I just realized i'll be further north than parts of canada. Do people in mi go to canada for a weekend party like we go to mexico here? Somehow I can't picture a canadian senior frogs...

No one that I know of parties in Canada. It's pretty hard to get in and out of these days, eh.

The bottom part of Michigan is indeed the Mitten part. I live in the "tip of the mitt"

We were just "up" your way, Rhonda. We stayed at Mill Creek Camping ground for a few days. It's beautiful there. Had to go to Cheboygan to get groceries.

Wow all kinds of new folks! Hi to jennkzoo, doc freye, rhonda, niser - welcome to the Michigan thread. Rhonda I am in St Ignace, close by.

I also had my first pullet egg this year, a beatiful little blue egg like a big jelly bean

Somehow people around here heard I have chickens, and they drop egg cartons off by the dozens, I give them away to other chicken keepers when I get too many stacked up

Compton.

Better yet, you all can watch the game, i'll cook.

And one last thing...You know you are from Michigan if you have Canadian coins in your pocket. I have pesos. and the occasional yen.

I miss the ballet and theater, we're too far out to partake here, and SD is mostly experamential theater... and some exparaments go horriably wrong.
