It's unlikely that you would get anything if you tried hatching double yolkers. More than likely it would crowd out both chicks and they would fail to survive to hatch, if they did they would be small and likely poor do'ers.

The best shaped and formed eggs are always best, but there are some myths flying around. The rounder eggs do hatch, I've hatched many. The old timers say that a round egg is a pullet and a pointy egg is a cockerel. Of course I've never tested the theory, but the round ones do hatch, of that I can tell you for sure. The reason the more porous eggs are not ideal for hatching is that they're generally more susceptible to bacterial contamination, which would prevent the chick from developing normally. That and the humidity/air transfer can also be slightly different than a normal egg which may result in poor hatch rates for those eggs.

In general, just pick your very best eggs when you hatch. Is it a remote possibility that you could get that rare egg that hatches out "twins"? Sure, I suppose it is. But more than likely all you're going to get is a dud at best and a lot of heart break and a couple chicks that need to be put down at worst.

I've read that very large eggs or mishappen eggs don't hatch. (Including eggs that have no real "pointy" end and porous eggs)

Like Olive, I've hatched out many round eggs. Usually they come from my newer pullets, but others have laid them too. I have also hatched out porous eggs, but most of the time if I see they're porous I get rid of them because they have ended up being my "leakers". Not always, I have some pullets in the runs now that came from porous eggs but they were the lucky ones.

I guess the one benefit to being a pet photographer is having extreme patience to get a shot of a very, very active rooster!! LOL

Free to a good home if anyone is interested.

Keyt,
Beautiful rooster!

I have a turken cockerel that needs a home- he is still small..was one of farmerboys babies at Chickenstock.
Unfortunately, my goose killed the female. I think it was the goose. I should say, "something killed the female- either got her out of the pen or she managed to get out of the pen." We found her dead in the yard.

I was going to offer them as a pair to entice someone to wanting him, but now I only have him to offer. I could throw in a goose if that would help. lol.

Did someone on here have a Blue Orp roo that they were wanting to rehome? Or was someone just talking about having a Blue Orp Roo...???

I understand........ we have found some very..... interesting (had no idea mushroom could grow out of the ceiling)....... houses in our search. We put a offer on a house on Tues..... now we wait for the counter offer.
I end up with a 1 hour 15 min drive to work with this house. Brent has a 18 minute drive. But since being on call at a hospital you have 30 mins to get there & be punched in, and people who need emergancy surgeries can't wait too long sometimes- I get the long drive. Luckily there are no emergancy grooms............

What hospital do you work at? It's frustrating and exciting at the same time looking for a new home for your family. Good Luck to you both in finding your dream home.

Brent works at the main campus of Battle Creek heath system- they just became Bronson Battle Creek though. I work at a vet clinic in Dewitt (I'm the groomer)
The said the counter offer will be given tomorrow..... fingers crossed. My barn will need electrical put back in (yup- have to upgrade the breaker box- $$ ouch) they took the barn's slots on the current box for the central air........

And I have to re roof the back slant off the main barn.

But other than that the barn is in great shape. Of course where I plan on setting up the chicken runs is the back slant area- so the birds will winter in the side slant while I get everything set up how I want it over the winter.

Surgeries? What kinda doctor? What hospital? I've joked that Sparrow needs to have a wing in my name I've spent a good portion of my life there lol. My first 10 surgeries were at Mott's or Mayo/St. Mary's. The last 30 have been at a combination of Sparrow and Ingham. I've had a few in other states.

He's a Surgery Tech..... he hands the doctor instruments & something about keeping a sterile field in the OR. (I picture a meadow in a bubble on this) I don't know- he helps during surgeries & has to go in if he's on call for emergancy ones too. It just means he has decent pay and we have to live near the hospital to me.

Eeyore what clinic do you work at? I used to work in DeWitt and took my cat to one of the clinic there... the name is escaping me at the moment -- it is right on the corner across 127 from Bob Evans, Zeeb, maybe? ... so that I could just take him on my lunch hour. As a kitten he became a fixture in the office because of all the checkups, appointment to be fixed, etc. He had a litter box in my office. LOL!
