Hi Chickychee,

You are not too far from me! I am between Charlotte and Eaton Rapids. On your way back from Imlay City, swing into the Charlotte fairgrounds and hit our swap meet. I know, bad timing, but at least ours is open until 2pm, so you should have time to do both!!

There is more info on the swap meet under the swap meet boards, if you are interested. It is a 4-H fundraiser to help buy new cages for the rabbits and poultry at fair this year.

hello, I'm VERY new here. I don't have any chickens yet, but I plan on getting some really really soon (as soon as I finish my coop)

If anyone has any suggestions on good breeds for Michigan I would really like some ideas. I'm clueless right now. Or if you have any older chickens that need a new home.

I'm in the south west area of michigan.

I taught her when she was really young, i would put her on a leash and walk her up to the fence and show her the birds then I would call one of my males over to me with some clover or other treat i had. once he was on the other side of me i would sit inbetween them and pet both of them relaxing them and talking to them both. Rose always lays her head in my lap and at the time my male turkey aka max would stretch out to. Rose just randomly start licking max (I think out of mother instinct) cleaning him in other words like his feet and his beak gently never hurtful. I guess she started it kind of on her own like the turkeys were her kids.

My Rose is like Fly off of Babe only with turkys.

That is so neat. Jake our border collie never hurts our chickens or turkeys. But he hasn't started to herd our chickens. I do have a house silkie who wears a diaper, and Jake and NIcki (our retriever) do not bother her. In fact she can eat their food and drink their water and they wait for her to finish before they go to their bowls. It is so funny to see that little silkie rule the roost!! Gail

Hi fellow Michigander here. I hail from "the thumb." Currently raising silver grey dorkings, Easter Eggers, Cayuga Ducks and new yesterday- Narragansett Turkey poults. We also have 2 mini-rex rabbits, 1 yellow lab/golden retriever mix and 2 house cats.

Hello, everyone!

I'm originally from the Tri-Cities area (Midland, Saginaw, Bay City, etc.) but moved to West Michigan eight years ago.

Only in Michigan can you have 84-degree weather on a Friday with snow in the forecast for Monday... I love our state. Ha ha!

Hey all,

Quick question. Is the swap meet in Imlay City indoors or out? I keep assuming it is outdoors but maybe it's not. There's that line of storms headed our way over night and into the morn and I'm thinking that if it is going to be rainy there's no point in going. But if it's inside...I'm there!

Thanks

yeah it is neat watching Rose (my red and white) interact with my birds. What I notice most when Rose is around the birds is that she kicks into Mother mood. The other day my Perl Guinea hen (Dakota) flew right next to Rose and she layed down and started pulling grass out of the ground for Dakota to peck at and eat.
