Hi, I'm from Michigan and I have chickens

We are located in nw Gratiot Co (west of Alma and south of Mt Pleasant). We have had good luck raising chickens, not so good luck keeping the racoons away... (we lost 50+ to the bandits in the past 2 years)

We have 1 laying RIR (the other last one was the latest casualty), 20 white MT x chicks, and the following pullet chicks, 1 RIR, 1 Buff Orpington, 2 Auracana, and 2 barred rocks.

We normally get 20 or so meat chickens every 2 weeks throughout the summer

Wow- 50 over the last two years

. I would be just sick over that. I've had 1 coon - that I know of- in the last year.
I think you need to read Panner123's posts! He deals with bears and has firepower, electric fencing and dawgs!!

Hi I am from Pennsylvania and I will be moving to Michigan for awhile.

I have two border collies one is red and white and one is Black and white. Rose (the red and white) is trained to nudge my trukeys and ducks in at night. She is so gentle with them I love to watch her work. When the turkeys don't want to move Rose will lay down and whine loudly until the turkeys decide to get up, then she tip toes till they are all in their pens. Its just one of her tricks for work I taught her. She has never been rough even as a pup with any of my birds and I love her.

Hi fellow Michiganders- I think Spring finally came...

I am in Southeast Michigan- about thirty minutes south of Detroit.

I am NOT allowed to have chickens in my city...so, I have started hatching eggs for my brother in law, who owns a farm close by.

I just had my husband build a nice 'toolshed' to keep my pick of the clutches- hmmm, clutch, a car has a clutch...maybe my tool shed is really a car parts shed...anyhow, I am hatching out a couple seramas, a couple banties..and the rest are mixed from Meyer hatchery. I will keep a few (serama/bantams), whichever turns out to be hens from that group. I plan on shmoozing my neighbors with some eggs.

I also have a house chicken that my daughter is head over heels in love with, they are definitely a bonded pair. The entire time we were building, she let us know that Carmen was NOT going to be living outside.

I am very glad to see that there are so many of us here from Michigan.

OK, I can't go to both swap meets this Sat. so I'm heading to Imaly City instead of Charlotte. It will take me half the time. I'm trying to get back for the boys' flag football game. I need to be cloned 4 times in order to be everywhere I'd like to be that day!
Anyone else going to Imlay City? I have never been so I'm looking forward to it.

I'll be there. I'm taking the whole family so they can see everything. I know it is a busy day for us, so we will be there at 6am when it opens. Maybe I'll sport the blue "chillin with my peeps" shirt, or even the "topless chicks" BYC shirt. Anyone else going early?

Ok, I'm going to Imlay City -just to look, mind you. I plan to get there about 7. I have a little longer than shoulder length brown hair and I'll be the one carrying around a little cardboard box-just in case-mind you. Stop me if you are a BYC person. See ya there.

Hello, Im also in Michigan! Like in between Charlotte and Hastings. There are so many people on here that are close it's wonderful. I'm planning on going to the Imlay Swap also.
