My birds "flow" with the climate, hence no warm treats for them. I grow excess corn, and some other things, that dry out and get thrown in with them every now and then. No bored chickens in my coops. The rabbits miss out on the clover and strawberry plants though, so they get carrots every few days. Lots of drops on the many apple trees I have but for some reason my birds are not interested, maybe I'll save some for the bunnies. The deer will start coming in and taking them anyway. Never thought of suet but I can picture a flock of hungry chickens decimating a suet block, lol!

No. His spurs aren't a problem yet because he's only 4 1/2 months old, but how exactly do you trim their toenails?

Something funny I just saw, not really funny since most folks already think along these lines. I went to the museum in Chicago the other day, it's the one next to the aquarium, a natural history museum - can't remember the name. Anyway, they have dinosaur exhibits and one plaque described dinos being like birds, Acually the plaque said "Birds are dinosaurs". A great palce to visit BTW!

thanx for these tips Olive.

It's nice to have a place to read/learn from people who've been doing things alot longer. I have 3 different TSC stores around me, Sometimes the closest one, which is the little one, doesn't have stuff I'm looking for, but then I can stop at the one on Gratiot in Saginaw as I go thru to Hemlock to see my kids, thats a BIG store and usually has what Im looking for, but it's farther away. I have a 10% coupon for TSC right now, think I'll go see what I can find and stock up on.

I apprecxiate SO MUCH that people on the Michigan thread are not only knowledgeable but not snotty about it. I have quit reading one thread and no longer subscribe to it because I posted a thought and people came back and treated me like an absolute gullible idiot. They were not so nice, total snobs, but I've never found that HERE in Michigan.

Have a great day all.

The Museum of Science and Industry? I think it is close to the Shedd aquarium, I can't quite remember, it has been so long.

The Museum of Science and Industry is a few miles south. The Field Museum (used to be called the Museum of Natural History), Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium are all in the same area within waking distance from each other. All three are great. I love Chicago.

I agree. Thank you for the tips Olive. I understand the price objection to the flock block. I didn't think about the sugar part. I really want to give them something to do. Has anyone ever used a treat ball? I have a couple for my dogs and they LOVE them. Sometimes, when I need them out of my hair that is how I feed them. LOL My mangy rescue likes to throw them down the stairs so I don't use them often. One day it's going to go through the wall I just know it.

Beet pulp eh? :: gag :: I am not sure if I am allergic but my tummy clenches at the sight of beets.

Beet pulp is not made of the beets we eat. It's a by-product of the sugar industry. It's what's left of sugar beets once they extract the sugar. It's a tremendous source of fiber. It's dry, gray and has very little smell so shouldn't make your stomach turn.

I really hate hate computers. After waiting over a week to get up and running, now trying to get my wireless router installed is giving me fits. Having to reinstall everything is really a pain but the worst of it is that for months I've procrastinated on getting a flash drive and backing up all of my information. Lots of photographs, all my flock records with birds ages and breed, plus worst of all a file of nothing but smilies that totalled 2900. Might take awhile to reamass that one.
