My son went out to the coop this morning for the usual visit before we start school work. I'm in the bathroom and he comes in yelling. I come out to him holding Wellie the Welsummer roo and the dog staring them down. I noticed Wellie looked a bit gimpy this morning but he has been scuffling with two older roos that are about to take a trip. He appears fine except is walking a bit funny and he is a very long legged rooster. My son decided he needed some extra attention. So Wellie is in the dog crate in the basement. My son just fixed him some scrambled eggs that he 'needed'. At this point I think the concern has turned into an excuse to put off the school work! But I'll watch him today and see what I think.

Well, Welly the Wellsummer is getting SPOILED! LOL.

My kid is like that about HIS chickens....

He informed me that we WILL NOT eat any of our chickens. we WILL NOT get meat chickens... LOL. Such a kid... LOL

HaHa. Krisrose and I drove down your block trying to spy a chicken coop. Didn't see anything either. Thanks! Can't wait! It's been a long 8 mos of pain and not sleeping well. Looking forward to feeling better.

My kids are very alert when comes to our chickens. They always let us know when one is missing in action when they are free ranging. The MIA is usually in the garden! They also had a hard time at first when they would over hear us discussion culling them in a few years. I explained to them that is what happens and assured them that we wouldn't cull their Roo or 3 of the 12 that are oh-so special. They know that we will keep those special ones (their pets) and replace the others when the time comes with new baby chicks. How fun will that be.......more baby chicks, yay! LOL..They still don't like the thought but are coming to terms with it!

So on to a different topic.....Today is such a let down from the past few beautiful days we've had. It is raining and I know we need it. I have to laugh though because it doesn't seem to bother my chickens. They have been in & out of the rain

since I let them in their covered run this morning!

Yesterday the girls gave me a whole dozen eggs! Woo Hoo!

Mom - I'm so sorry about the problems you are having with the city. I can't imagine having to rehome the animals you love. Your DD was so cute with Penelope following her around at Chickenstock, I hope you can find a good home where she can still go to visit her.

Someone from Downriver was looking for fresh eggs. I'm in Clay/Algonac, but if you can't find anyone closer, would be happy to sell you some! Just PM me if interested.

Anyone heading to FOWL FEST to show birds???? I am thinking of showing a few Coronation sussex and Birchen Marans. Also wondering if anyone showed last year and got sick birds. I don't need this to happen. Take care. Bryan
