OliveHill you have got to stop posting winter doom!! I am sucking up every minute of this delightful Indian Summer and your winter reminders make it tough to seize the moment! My best winter advice is to leave our flock for several weeks mid winter and escape to warm climate! LOL.

Yesterday I went with several friends to a 100 plus year farm called Samel's. The 4 brothers are all deceased now but gave the property to the Historical Society (I guess). Anyway...it is in Williamsburg and I had never been before but oh was it worth it!! Everything was FREE ---other than jars sitting out asking for donations! You could tour the old home and the barn. They had horse pulled wagons that took you out through the field to the woods where those that wanted to could get off and walk into the woods to Lake Skegemon (spelled wrong I think). A ranger was back there that took you off onto another trail and showed where there had been "digs" made and discovered the area was used for food storage by the Indians. They had a display case with the Indian artifacts found on the farm. They had home cranked ice cream, roasted corn on the cob, ground up corn (you watched and got baggie filled with two cups),fresh pressed apple cider (you watch)...if you brought a jug...you got that FILLED...did I mention it was all FREE? Antique farm implements...working windmill...it was fabulous. Next year I am taking my DH who would have loved it!

My 5month Jersey roo finally started crowing! No eggs from my almost 6 month old Orps but from what I read online...they may just wait until spring.

Ferret I am sorry about your silkie. How sad.

Glad everyone had fun at fowlfest. I think when in Florida this winter I may pick up some hatching Ameracauna hatching eggs from a lady on BYC who lives in Alachua....get them as we are enroute home and put them into bator on arrival.
Wish I could just haul my chickens with us to Florida but DH has nixed that idea! Sigh.

My daughter, Remington and her buck she shot yesterday (with her cross bow). It's an 8 point, and her uncle is getting it mounted. It's going in her room, since we already have three others throughout the house.

Holy-tomly.....That is one nice deer....Tell your daughter way to go & congrats!!! I can't wait to see what my son says when I show him this....totally awesome!!!

That is a nice buck!

Chickens are acting goofy today...At first the 3 BSLs were out and making a ruckus. They were telling me that Broil was on the outside of the run. She is the dominant bird but came to me and I put her back in the run, then got my daily egg. The buffs are still in the coop and the BSLs keep going in and out. All the while making a ton of noise.

I'm hoping that one of the other girls is ready to lay.

Guess I better get ready to go to school. I really don't want to today...

AngelaB-I hunt gun season mostly in the UP, not a lot of big deer where we're at. That deer your daughter got has bigger antlers than all of mine combined. Congrats to her and by the way, love her name too.

Glad everyone had fun at Fowl Fest! We had planned to attend on Saturday for DH's birthday, but decided against it when we saw the weather forcast. We know that the sunny days are fleeting and we have so much to do in preparation for putting our house on the market. Oh, and there was also that bumper crop of black walnuts that really needed to be dealt with.....they are like the plague! And since we have 30 of the stupid trees....grrrr! We did accomplish a lot, got most of my plants moved to the farm. It was glorious being out in that sunshine!
