Since I haven't been here lately, here's the updates:

The chickens are all looking great since they finally finished molting. Aric's daughter's ex-boyfriend's dad (make sense? lol) called us a few weeks ago saying he had 4 chickens he needed to re-home. One was a 6 year old rooster. We agreed that he may not take the transfer well since he hadn't lived anywhere else. He was ok for the first couple of days, but he wouldn't eat or move out of the corner. I had him in the breeding pen with the young bantams who fly in there from the other breeding pen now and then. We let Dale know he wasn't doing so well to see if he wanted him back in case he was attached to him. He said he didn't move much either at his house but he was probably safer at our house because he went and picked up more birds and he didn't have a place to keep him separated like we do. Well we tried everything but he just wouldn't eat and he died overnight

Last week I got a call from a lady who was looking to re-home a couple of khaki campbell hens. I forgot I had the ad in CL looking for more females haha. She brought them here and they have adjusted better than any other ducks we've taken in! I didn't even have to teach them where to go at night, they figured it out themselves! I have been amazed at how well they have done with everyone here!! When I let everyone out of the run, they are the first ones in the pool in the yard (we now have 3 pools and a pond lol), and the last ones out, but when it's time to go in they don't take any coaxing!

The only other news is last week I began taking Chantix and today is the first day I quit smoking all together. I'm a bit nervous about it but ready! Wish me luck!

I got them from Kathy, BYC'er kathyinmo. She got them from Doug Akers I believe. I do plan on breeding them in the spring, well they are already breeding, but I plan on hatching eggs in the spring.

Will you be selling any hatching eggs?

Does anyone know laws concerning shooting the neighbor's dog on your property with dead birds? If my gun had been loaded I think I would have shot it regardless but now that I am calmer I'd like to find out what the law is. Due to the dog I lost one guinea, a cochin, he ATE my silkie, my Sizzle is still missing but presumed eaten, and I have one injured guinea that he had in his mouth when I took off after him. Neighbor was kind enough to say the dog was home in the yard - yah after I chased him there! Needless to say my morning didn't go well and the school work didn't get finished for the day.

I know a farmer is free to use deadly force to protect his/her livestock. I'm uncertain if pet owners are afforded the same legal protection though.

Another thing you need to consider are your local laws and ordinances on discharging a firearm. Even if the law says you can protect your stock you can be charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm if it's not permitted in your location.

ETA: I would certainly be delivering the neighbor a bill for damages regardless.

I'm sorry about your birds!! That just really sucks. I can't bring myself to harm another animal. Can you catch it and bring it to HS? Or catch it and bring it to your neighbor and tell him next time you will do something about the dog. My next door neighbor's dog killed my chicken back when I got my first 2. That started an all out war. It was my fault. He has 17 acres and can't let his dogs run....well, yeah, on your 17 acres, not on my 1 1/3. He never contained his dogs. It's not fun living next to an enemy. Hope you can it this problem fixed. Good luck.
